what the heck are these black things?
I spotted these black things in the same location a month ago and asked my husband if they were mouse droppings. He didn't think so... we thought they were possibly from the kids? I wiped it up and moved on. A month later, they're back in the same location. They don't appear to be bugs... I'm not sure what the heck they are. They're smaller than mouse droppings. What do you think?

Comments (7)It's a Mammillaria, and some of them grow like that. I have a M. matudae over a foot tall that grows like that, and so did M. perezdelarosa until the bottom rotted. Comments (2)it looks like it! I have been trying to google descriptions for it with no luck. You know we thought it might be a caterpillar of some kind at first, but we have only been seeing them as they are in the photo. No solitary caterpillar, no cocoon that doesn't have a worm protruding and carrying it along. And they show up in random places, like on a wall where a few minutes ago was nothing, now is a wiggling worm-cocoon thing. So we assumed that they are one unit and can move fast together. Comments (7)I've noticed them a few times here in FL. They resemble the end piece that holds together pine tree needles. But then there is a little hole in the end where the animal pops out of. last yearAre there cockroaches in your area? We don't really have many in my area so I've never seen one or lived with them, but when I was looking for pics of mouse droppings just now, there are pics of cockroach droppings (I guess I never realized they left droppings) that look exactly like that. Not sure if they would hang out by a furnace vent or not. Oh, but I see maybe dog food is nearby?
