Help no entryway with five kids furniture layout help
Comments (15)Most definitely, the design challenge for living rooms that have no foyer and is a walk thru room is to create that cosy feeling. The configuration of your room should be flipped. The long sleek sofa should be on the long sleek wall. By relocating the sofa, a foyer is created with a sofa table under the window with the bench under it and a closed wood cabinet backing up the sofa. Walking into a solid piece of wood furniture will ground the space and define the seating. There is 4'-0" clearance from the front door wall and the edge of the sofa and don't forget that everything is low (30" - 33") so there isn't an obstruction. Also creating the foyer forces a specific space for all that stuff we all walk in with when we get home. In the plan note that the blue line indicates the tv (sorry for moving all those wires). The red lines indicate art/mirrors. By relocating the tv on the staircase wall, it allows easy access to the closet under the stairs, creates a reading nook at the window, and allows room for another lounge chair and ottoman near the stairs. It looks good, too. Consider painting the wall behind the tv from the window to the staircase an interesting color, wallpaper or wall treatment. this way that wall will be pleasing to look at. Here's the plan, the best I could figure out without measurements. Looks like a very big sofa so a 12' sofa is in the plan. The rug should be a 9 x 12 in front of the sofa and a runner at the front door running side to side.Of course you will have to verify the measurements to make sure this will work. The nice thing about furniture is that you can move it around! Hope this helps....See MoreHelp!!! This entrance needs help!
Comments (7)Aside from the shrubs, as is, I like this entrance. If and when your shrubs grow and fill in between them and you can trim them a uniform height just above the floor level, that will be an improvement. Perhaps you could move the shrubs closest to the railing to a bare spot between the other shrubs. Adding a pair of large planters -- one on each side of the steps -- with something to add color could improve curb appeal. There are pressed metal exterior wall decorations that might be added to the brick -- either on each side of the opening or something (for instance, a sun) above it. https://www.google.com/search?biw=1366&bih=650&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=mo5aWq3LHIfq_AbCx6y4CQ&q=image+pressed+metal+art+sun&oq=image+pressed+metal+art+sun&gs_l=psy-ab.3...3441.3954.0.6553.4.4.0.0.0.0.76.282.4.4.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.0.0....0.BYK8FJEkONU...See MoreNeed help with entrance stairs/rails
Comments (5)Dig a bit deeper. There are precast steps that look more natural like stone. https://www.edsconcrete.ca/steps-precast-stone You might be able to go over what you have. I don't like the fake gray stone on the retaining walls. It doesn't complement what little I can see of the house. I would select a minimal wrought iron handrail for this installation. You might be able to purchase it online and have it installed...See MoreHelp with entry appearance
Comments (15)I like the entry. redoing the staircase would really up the ante to the overall look. the brown carpet just doesn't work. if you have wood treads, refinish them, add some riser tiles. railing is fine, maybe get it freshed up w/a coat of paint? or, redo treads to match the other wood, paint risers same as wall. add black/cream accents. (see below for that) If you like the blacks/whites/creams, I'd do this tile on the risers. would look amazing w/the dark treads For now, remove the clock and the round table. maybe play up the spanish look w/something like this took away the clock, added the bench, the rug, and a diff light bench idea would look a million times better than that round table. console table, taller plants, runner, and a LARGE colorful art piece for the stairs. or, look for a console table. antique would be fine. anything in wood w/that old style spanish/old world feel to it. A runner is also needed. (notice the stairs w/the saltillo/tiles) runner in the colors shown above, ,maybe a few textured items both of these are more netural in color and textures. the woods/blacks/creams w/the textured items would be perfect w/your wall and floor love your skylights and plants. more spanish revival with pops of color. if you did want to upgrade the stairs, go this route w/talavera type of tile on the risers. For sure lose the carpet! quick photoshop. would look really good! what's on your treads?...See MoreNat F
