Rose/Clematis combination
Comments (10)I've got the following roses and clematis plants and any ideas or thought on clems to add to my collection would be most welcome... I've got an Alchymist climber on a wooden fence out in the middle of my yard, with room for two more climbers, or some shrub roses. I have other roses on the other side of my yard by my house--Eden, Jude the Obscure, Evelyn, Olympiad, Fantin LaTour and some Casblanca lilies planted nearby, adding as I can afford extra bulbs and can find them at the growers. I just got two clems, Rhapsody and Vyvyan Penell--one of which I plan to set out with my Alchymist. Preferences? Beyond that, I have two clems I don't know the exact names of yet--they were mismarked when I bought them, and are not what's on the tag!I will upload photos once they bloom. Those two are planted by the Eden and the FL....whatever they are, lol, they are currently thriving. Any idea on adding roses and clems to my fence or shrubs would be fantastic food for thought, and would be most welcome....See MoreYour favorite rose combinations?
Comments (32)Zyperis, just call me Serena, that is my real life name... I'm a very prissy kind of girl, and Ser makes me feel like a macho drill sergeant, like Yessir! LOL! If Serena is too long to type you can call me KG, which Boxofrox has been calling me-Kansas Girl, as he put it "Yo--Kansas Girl". I would post photos of them side by side, but Gemini and Fragrant Cloud right now are "sleeping", I have to wait for both to start their full flush, just seeing 2 blossoms on each would look very silly especially if the 2 on my Gemini are already fading and the third bloom was deadheaded day before yesterday-- it would make a pretty awful photo. As soon as both get their full prolific bloom flush, I will post them together...Fragrant Cloud is truly a rose that people either love or absolutely hate! It's not like Gemini... You cannot go wrong with Gemini... It has exhibition quality gorgeous blooms...Fragrant Cloud is a beginner's rose because it is sooooo easy to grow and has great fragrance but man! its colors are indeed overwhelming and overpowering...Decobug like me has enjoyed success with it in certain color combinations, but you are playing with fire. If anyone is thinking FC, you better run to the nursery just to be sure you can handle her (she is a Spanish scarlet hue-think flamenco orange-red)...Gemini is the complete opposite...It is a rose to fall in love with. It goes with practically anything under the sun...There is only one catch with Gemini, if you are very! picky about fragrance like I am, be sure you get a fragrant version of Gemini...Usually Gemini have little scent...I lucked out in mine (Jackson & Perkins) having this very sweet lovely fragrance....See Moreroses combined with clematis
Comments (10)Cindy, My Arctic Queens are in their second year, so I can't say how tall it will get for sure. The one that has been thriving from the beginning is probably about 5-6 ft tall right now (and has a ton of buds on it!). The second almost did not survive its first year, but is very healthy this year but shorter as a result--maybe 3 ft tall. I would expect the taller one to grow another foot or two as the season progresses--which would put it in the 6-8 ft range listed at helpmefind.com. It really is a gorgeous clem--the kind that makes people stop and ask what is it. Kate Here is a link that might be useful: Arctic Queen at helpmefind.com...See MoreLost clematis & my favorite rose
Comments (5)I have enough sweet autumn clematis to cover your chicken run, your pergola, your garage, your house, and your neighbors homes too. If you're coming to the Cape anytime soon, let me know, and I'll pot up a couple of dozen of them for you, instead of spraying them with vinegar. Of course these are no-name plants - although I bought the first one from White Flower Farm (before I knew how they behaved in zone 7). Is Sweet William a particularly nice variety? If so, you have my sympathy - not that the 'plain' ones aren't nice when they bloom. Gee, if voles can do them in, maybe I'll try to stop my dog from hunting them - she's pretty effective....See MoreAna C 6b Ontario
