What manufacturer and colors do you have to choose from? Is this only going to be on the front of the house? I agree with palimpsest, cut the height down to only foundation height.

Whatever you choose, use it on all sides of the house and garage, so it looks intentional and like it serves a purpose. Slapping it on one side only looks fake.

And regarding the color, I'd use something with gray/black tones, no browns or taupes.

Or skip it altogether for a more cohesive, consistent look.

I agree with Diana about stone colors. If you are certain you are using gray and white elsewhere, don’t pick a beige or tan or orange or brown stone.

And also like someone said - what color stone appears naturally in your area of the world? Don’t pick an out-of-the-ordinary color just because you like it. It looks fake (which veneer is anyway).

You are getting some very good advice here. Lowering the stone so that it appears more to be a foundation is an excellent option. Using natural colored stone that might occur in your area is also very good advice especially if the naturally occurring stone is in the gray family.

Here is one clue:

As others have said, have the stone go all around the house and have it only go as high as the first floor of your house. Any higher, and it will look like grandpa pulled his pants up too high.

Also I wouldn't do board and batten in the gables. I'd stick with the same lap siding so the house feels more cohesive. And keep it the same color.

I agree the stone needs to look like it is forming the foundation and always all around the hose or it always looks like fake

Taking the stone to the underside of the window sills consistently seems to be the right stopping point.
