We do not really have winter here, although it will snow in the mountains above 5,000 feet or so.

Forecast for the next week in Palm Springs is for highs in the 80s and low 90s, with lows in the upper 60s. However, it is now too cold to use the pool without heating it, and that gets expensive, and so I have declared pool season over, as of yesterday.

In L.A. (where I was yesterday), winter is more like spring, and there is no frost where I live near the beach. Average low temperature in January is 50 degrees.

If I want cold weather, I can go up Mount San Jacinto, which overlooks the Coachella Valley, and I have a view of it from my patio.

Yep, 33 tonight, 23 Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Time to plant the garlic and harvest the horseradish.

Of course it will be 80 for 3 days next weekend!

We pretty much have summer and almost summer here in SoCal. We’ve been enjoying clouds, drizzle and cooler temps for a couple days. High today maybe 74. It’s supposed to heat up again this week to 86-88 here in the San Gabriel Valley.

It's for sure not summer here any longer but it is a spectacularly gorgeous fall!! Should hit mid 70's today but that is likely to be the highest temp we'll see until next summer!! It's getting very chilly at night and need to think about bringing in houseplants soon but a block from the beach, I rarely see a frost. Still no rain in sight, which is really unusual for this late into October. Also very smoky at the moment from fires on the east side of state.

It's been a nice summer with decent rainfall, and a good fall with cool pleasant temperatures. We've had two frosts already but not a major freeze. Not cold enough to kill all the mosquitos yet -- maybe later this week.

It was 84 here today in SC, but it’s likely going to freeze Tuesday night. This is about two weeks early. I am not ready. Neither is my garden. The Monarchs are not even out of here yet.

It was a lovely day today, hit 70f or thereabouts, & it is still 65. Our neighborhood trees have been spectacular, especially the sugar maples.

Daytime temp tomorrow is supposed to only be in the mid 40s, and near freezing the next 3 nights, then warming slightly by the weekend. Maybe even some snow mixed with rain on Tuesday.

I will have to take the time to move my 5 potted citrus, 2 potted peppers, and the plants to overwinter (several flowering tender perennials) into the garage tomorrow. Guess it is time to put the amaryllis into the basement to go dormant for a while too.

The forecast for next week says we will get several warm days over next weekend, with the lows just around 60F. I hope so - I played around too long and although I got the driveway patched, it turned too cold to sealcoat it & it really needs it.

It was raining (misting) in the desert when I arrived here yesterday, and there were thunderstorms between 4 and 5 pm, resulting in a total of 0.1" of rain, and so flash flood warnings were issued, as a precaution.

It only started blooming days ago, and it will be dead within two more days. Summer is fully over.

Our Chicagoland weather prediction is for overnight freeze, but 70 next weekend. I love where we live! But then, I do not have mums or asters, and the chives returned happy from a polar vortex, so I know Mother Nature is a bit forgiving.

Today was a beautiful fall day for the visit to the pumpkin patch. Sunny and warm enough that all you needed was a zippered sweat shirt. At camp 2 hours north we already had our first frost but not freeze. Peak leaf is over. The container plants are shot, but the mums, zinnias and marigolds are still hanging on. Next Sunday when I head back up it probably will be all shot. At home first frost is to be this week and peak leaf.

I don't mind wearing sweaters or sweat shirts, but I really hate wearing the winter coats,scarves, hats, boots, and gloves.

Bpath, I'm in Chicagoland, and I procrastinated on a few outdoor projects this weekend, knowing that next weekend's temps will rise a bit. But I have my hat and gloves ready for tomorrow morning's walk.

I got my dahlia tubers in late this year, and there are a few last-minute buds waiting to bloom... I'm hoping they ignore tonight's freeze.

In the meantime, I'm enjoying our peak fall display.

Central coast CA: 50 overnight and high of 70 during the day. The inside house temperature was dropping to 68, so turned on the heat last week just in the morning. Still have cherry tomatoes ripening and new growth with flowers on the plants.

I'm in SE TX and we will FINALLY see temps NOT in the 90's for the first time in over 5 months. I'm so ready for cooler less humid weather.

I take it back! We never got below 38F last night, according to our weather sensor. It still feels darn cold here, with a strong wind. I'm still emailing our lawn guy to take the potted plants and put their pots and our little fountain (size of a small baptismal) in the garage. The birds (and one enterprising squirrel) are just going to have to go down to the creek until Spring.

We've had frost a few times. About an hour ago we got a noisy and very fast hailstorm.

I hear you, neighbor. I saw a few people wearing parkas and knit beanies today, even though temps were in the mid to high 70s.

Some people dress based on the calendar, whether that makes sense for the day's weather or not. For others, not just in our area, "cold weather" is anytime it isn't "hot weather", they skip right over comfortable weather and only think of the extremes.

Had a light freeze a week or two ago. I don't remember when. This morning supposed to be a hard freeze. Picked a few tiny beans, okra, some kale. Covered a few things with leaves from the yard, hoping my snow peas make it through. Will have green onions and maybe chard all Winter long. A friend gave me 4 gloves of garlic to plant a couple months ago so I put them out, I think two weeks ago. They've come up nicely.

Was hoping to spread out the rest of the giant mulch pile I have but having shoulder, arm and neck pain. I don't want to mess anything up so I may just cut the dead flowers over the next couple days. Nothing strenous.

On a brighter note, Aldi's had sugared almonds from Germany. I bought a bag and thinking of going back for a couple more.

After the insane hot weather many of us suffered in Texas this last summer, it is so sweet to have cool temps. Highs in the 60s today!

It's only 45° here right now. Will drop to 29° tonight. Brrr!

It's funny 40s this time of year feels so cold, but come late winter it feels so warm.
