Grout color for blue hex kitchen floors?

Hi,

I am re-doing a small 90sf kitchen and going with sky blue hex tiles for the floors- leaning towards a light grey grout because white would be too easy to get dirty. Rest of the kitchen will be white matte cabinets, stainless appliances, 3x8 subway tiles with white grout and quartzstone counters- white with grey veining. Thoughts?

I would be tempted to do a grey the same value as the blue. Curious what the pros will say. Pretty tile!

I would try to get a lighter blue, that is in the same color family as the tile. If you cant, then I would say gray. I agree, its a beautiful tile.

Should the grout be the same color? Not necessarily. Will it look weird to use a darker gray on the floor and a lighter gray in the shower? Not at all. Any recommended colors for the shower and floor tiles along these lines? I've been getting stuff at Lowe's and they carry MAPEI Warm gray for the subway tile, and silver for the hex, if you lke a darker grey for the hex. Silver is actually a medium grey, but it'll appear alot darker with the white tile. Our bathroom isn't perfectly square. I think a colored grout seam that is uneven will be really obvious(that's my understanding where you would do any flubbing). Can you grout just the seam white? Can you skip grout and caulk it? Any suggestions here? Grout everything on the floor the same color. it'll actually show up more if you try doing what you suggested. It'll literally draw attention to it. What you want to dpo is make sure that you're square to the most obvious walls from the door. Especially with the hex, it won't be quite as obvious as you think, unless it's WAY out, and then nothing you can do will hide it, even using a blending color grout. One other thing-- that joint where the floor hits the walls should be caulked, but still caulk it with a caulking that matches the grout, both color AND texture. Does anyone know what the measure is for hex tile and subway? For subway, use unsanded, and for the hex, use sanded.

Thank you everyone! In that room I am going to do a light gray grout through out. I think it will hightlight the tiles. The vanity is white and I think gray grout will give the room some depth. Tinker, if you are up to it, you should show off your bathrooms, they are gorgeous! I do have a question. In the master I am doing a white marble floor w gray grout. But am thinking white grout for the shower subways as well as shower floor. It is a fancier space and I want the shower to take a backseat to the marble and other fixtures. Does that make sense?

Assuming they used the same grout throughout and did not switch grouts, it looks like a medium gray. I think the reason it might seem like a light grout in the picture is because most tiles have a kind of lighter halo on the edges. But if you follow the grout line carefully from the very one-colored white hex over to the gray field you can see the grout being gray. Either way, now seeing that installation picture, I would say using the 'cool' shade is fine and it will help coordinate with your marble too. If you found the original picture on Houzz, you could ask the designer/owner what they used. Here is our 'dove gray' (Tec) One interesting thing to me is that this pic taken in the morning light and no flash, but it looks darker on my phones screen than it does IRL. So even if you do hunt down a color, YMMV in how it looks in your space the majority of the time vs someone's photo

I ended up using Mapei Timberwolf and it turned out really nice. It looks pretty light next to the almost black Nero Marquis’s but it is definitely more of a medium gray. I did Mapei warm gray on my white subway tiles which is a much lighter gray. I don’t have a photo at the moment but hopefully this video will load.

Depends on if you want a graphic look or not. If so, match the white of your walls. If not, try to get a slightly lighter shade of the same blue, if that's possible.

, i will ask contractor to try to match the tile, lets see... i am nervous about white getting dirty too easily.

Mapei makes a blue gray called Rain that might work. I think a true gray would work too, especially if you could pull out some of the gray from the counters. Definitely test colors, though. (Same for your backsplash tile--there are a lot of variations on white!)

Mapei Warm Gray.

FlexColorCQ (make sure the installer watches the video on how to grout w/this type. clean up has to be quick w/very little water)

I used warm gray w/my shower tiles. (both the white and the marble niche)

It's a perfect neutral.

If you like Custom brand, Try the Oyster Gray or Natural Gray if you want darker.

darker gray you'll get this look.

Always do a sample board w/scraps and a few choices, but this is basically what gray grout looks like w/blue tiles

We have light blue penny tiles in a bathroom. I'd originally picked a light grey grout, but got a panicked call from the tiler saying it looked really bad (he was right). He ended up mixing a custom colour that is a fairly dark grey just this side of black. I like the look and also the fact that it hides the dirt better than the light grey grout in our other bathrooms.

Those are quite a staement , what was the reason behind the choice? I dislike hex tiles and in a kitchen even more than a bathroom . IMO get a custom mixed matching grout to tone those down as much as possible . I would have chosen blue counter appliances and a much more neutral floor.
