Glazed porcelain ("semi polished") tiles OK for tub/shower walls?

last modified: 2 years ago

Does anyone have advice for me on the suitability of different types of porcelain and different finishes, for the surround of my tub/shower? We are a family of 4 and the shower walls would get a lot of use and need frequent cleaning.

I've mainly been looking at UNglazed porcelain for floors and "coloured base" porcelain, but I do like the look of this tile. Just not sure if glazed porcelain, especially when it's described as "semi polished" is truly practical if I'm going to need to wash it often over many years. Is there any chance the minerals in the water + cleaning chemicals + "elbow grease" will eventually scrub off the glaze?

And does anyone have thoughts on matte finishes in tub/shower surrounds? Practical or not practical? All my previous bathrooms have always had glossy/polished finishes and I have no idea what it's like trying to clean a matte or semi-polished finish. Thanks for all advice!
