I would keep the chair dark and reupholster seats in a pretty fabric.

Dark table, light chairs is done all the time, so why not light table, dark chairs? You will definitely need to reupholster, however. This is the only picture I could find is close to your color scheme:

I think you have all the makings of a fabulous room! Love the light fixture, the buffet, the wall color and the dark floors. I also would keep the chairs the way they are. You could add a rug under the table in a lighter tone to balance off the dark floor and walls. You might consider a colorful patterned fabric for the chair seats as well. I'd also replace the sconces with more substantial ones, perhaps in a brushed brass, and add curtain panels on the windows.

I think an area rug and changing the fabric on the chairs will make all the difference.

Your instincts are spot on. The wood chairs and sideboard are great together, the warm wood softens the contrasting choices in the room.

P.S. White elements do not cheapen the look of a classic or transitional decor scheme. Yes, anything can be overdone, but used sparingly and judiciously as you have done, it has added drama and most certainly brings your room into our contemporary era. The mustard uphostery as an accent is about as on point as you can get, and with the teal walls and white wood trim...stunning.

Wow. Thanks everyone for the replies and I’m actually surprised that it’s majority hands down stick with natural wood chairs. I do feel like most (as I follow the discussions) lean more towards traditional design aesthetic…

With that said. I was considering a totally modern all white sideboard. I’m guessing the votes will be unanimous NAY for that? 😀

I am definitely reupholstering - they’re all nasty and damaged actually. I’m having trouble deciding solid, geometric or multi. And then debating my mustard vs classic white/silvery gray and then go bolder on the rug.

I feel like the clincher is the sideboard buffet and whether it stays or goes. I do love that J Adler inspiration photo…I’m just not bold enough to go there 😀

I like the chairs. but I'd get them sprayed in a lighter teal color. I think that would look great. for the fabric on the seats, bring in the mustard or gold.

Or, since you have the blue and pink in the art, go w/the pink color instead of the gold

This material would be perfect w/the wall and the table. and works w/the reddish tones of the wood. you may be able to keep your chairs as is if you did this on the seat. or just paint them white

spray the chairs a robin egg blue and add this material. stunning. bring in a white rug

you can lacquer them or use a good spray. Valspar has some nice colors in their spray.

I actually combined those exact two colors with a dresser I did. this teal was more blue than yours, but the robins egg would work w/your colors

There is also a place that will put any color in a spray can for you.

Amy Howard has lacquer in a can, but to do all of those wouldn't be cheap!

After spraying, I'd redo the seats. those are actually really easy to do yourself. just go find some fabric
