Help w area rug color and decor
This will be my family room (have 2 kids and a cat). I am aiming for a farmhouse look and want to make sure there is enough space when people come over and during Christmas as this is where our tree will go. What color rug so that this room doesn’t look dull? And how can I decorate? Don’t want a tv console because it’s not needed. Husband asked for blackout drapes (not into those though). Thanks in advance.

Comments (7)The idea is to lighten the top half of the room both in color and in style. Use the slips on just the armless chairs. I think that will look fine since the armchairs are over to the side. Designers often use a different look at the ends of the table versus the sides. Do you have a lighter colored bed sheet? Why not try laying it down over the carpet. That will give you an idea of how a light colored carpet would work. Also, you will want to change some of the artwork. last yearLower the TV for best viewing. Rug should slip under the front 1/3 to 1/2 of the sofa and extend past the two sides of it by at least a foot. It should be 12-18" from the hearth.

last yearSubtract this console since you said you don't want one. Consider an accent wall in dark teal with ledge shelves for art and family photos. Second photos shows Stormy Blue color that would harmonize well with brown furnishings.
