Fill the 91" with (wall hung) console. You have 6" to play with. How about hanging the t v 6" off side? I just like the look better for a large t v and console...not so heavy looking.

I wonder if a 6-inch offset on a 90" console would be enough to look like it's not a mistake.

I'd skip anything else on the wall. Paint it black. I'd go lower than 18".

The numbers do not seem to allow for a console of any size?…at most…maybe a shelf?..a 4”x4” ? ….To just add a little dimension?

I should have mentioned that I have a Lovesac center channel and several input devices that I want to enclose. I don't like surface-mounted speakers or speakers resting on shelves and furniture. To me they look like an afterthought. I could always recess components into the wall, but my wife wants a buffer between destructive small children and the TV.

Really? That seems incredibly low. 1.5 feet off the floor? I can't even imagine finding a console that low. Personally I like the look of a console that rests on the floor under TVs. I just don't like the look of wall hung consoles, but you should do what you like. I do think a 90" console would look better than an 84" console.

The center of the screen should be at seated eye level (usually around 42 inches). A 55-inch screen should be placed no higher than 25-1/2" from the floor. I believe televisions migrated higher in American homes as a result of the TV-over-the-fireplace trend during the early flat panel era.

A wall-mounted console probably wouldn't work with our baseboard molding.

I found a low console with louvered doors (allowing audio and IR signals to pass and air to circulate), but it is made in China and it's only 81 inches. I expect I'll I need a custom piece.

Consider two pieces that add up to what you want.

But for the fact that I need a shelf centered under my TV for a speaker, that would be an excellent solution.

Can you "build" a shelf that connects the 2 pieces?

If I could notch the adjoining sides, I might be able to do that. I really hate to start sawing up two nice pieces of furniture, but I'll look into it. :)

I think you are being a bit too literal with the "recommended/suggested" TV hanging heights.

The bottom of my 65" TV is at 33" and I would not want it any lower ... my DH would want it quite a bit higher because he leans way back when relaxing on a sofa and is technically looking at the top half of a wall.

We just got a 100" TV for a media room and he would have hung it way too high based on the way he sits, but luckily I convinced him to lower it to what I consider a "normal" height! The bottom of the 100" TV is 39.5" off the floor and the sofa is 16' 6" from the wall. The primary use of this room is 2-channel audio which dictated the position of the reclining sofa. There is no way the TV should be at 18" off the floor, unless you plan on sitting on the floor when watching. Then again, your room might be much smaller and you sofa has to be much closer, but I would hate to have to be any closer to a TV of that size. In a movie theater I never sit any closer than middle of the theater as I want to be able to see the whole screen without having to move my eyes or my head . You might be one of those people that likes to sit in the front row!

There are more variables to consider than just the two you mention,

so (97" TV = 18" off the floor) is not necessarily the right answer.

I usually don't recline when viewing TV. The current 65" TV sits at about 18.5" off the floor, which places the center 7" lower than the supposed optimal height. This is the perfect height for my viewing comfort. The center of the 97" TV will sit 7" higher than the current TV, with the top of the screen 14.5" higher. I hope the extra foot up the wall won't be too irritating.

We purchased a 97" TV because my wife would like the TV mounted on the wall, so the viewing distance will increase from 9.5 feet to 11.5 feet. Even at 97", the angle will fall a few degrees shy of the 36 to 40 degree THX recommended horizontal viewing angle. I am not a fan of the front row at movie theaters, where the viewing angle can be as high as 60 degrees. I normally sit near the middle of the theater, depending on the design.
