Windows Design Dilemma Before & After

mixing window blinds

I have hree windows and teo doors leading out to the patio. The windows easily will work using outsode mount for the blinds. Theo doors however, do not have enough space for inside mount. If I just do an outsode mount the valance of the blinds hit one another when opening the door. YIKES . Can I mix a 1" blind with a 2.5" blind next to one another?

Use the same size blind slats around the room for cohesiveness. Why not use blinds that mount inside the window frames? Skip the valances. Or mix and match treatments in the same color family.

thank you trace floyd. my problem is the door (s) do not have enough space to do inside mount. The hardware must be an otside mount and the blinds would hit one another when opening the door. The 2" valance that each blind is attached to does not permit the door to open fully. I'm at a loss as I know I could put mini blinds in the room, but I despise that look.

They're called "window treatments" for a reason. And that's BECAUSE not all windows in a room require or BENEFIT from the "same" treatment. As you've noted, some of the windows in your room are too small to carry off a more complex treatment. Good for you for recognizing that fact! (many don't or are too afraid to say that "the emperor isn't wearing any clothes"!). I'm a stickler for FUNCTION. I believe window treatments should be useful! You ought to be able to "draw the draperies", lower the shades, and cover the windows for privacy or added warmth. I have shades in my living/dining area, and the adjoining library. I also have a pinch pleated, one-way draw drapery panel that covers the slider to the deck. Clearly, I've used to different treatments in the same space (they're all in the same fabric). I've done the same thing in our bedroom; drapery panels on the bay window and a shade on the mullion that overlooks the backyard. You should never hesitate to used different treatments in the same room. As long as you use the same fabric and pay attention to details it will look fine and perform brilliantly for many years to come.

It would be nice to have a current pic, with the curtains you have hung, but by way of illustration I've inserted some below. The open alcove windows seem absolutely fine to me -- I'd added a round rug to accentuate the feeling that it's its own little 'room'.

I wouldn't worry about it. I would have chosen blinds to match the trim but it is what it is; it's just a blended color scheme off-whites. NBD. Once you get everything in place, it will look fine.

Window blind/roller shade mount for casement windows

I have inside mount for my casement windows with blinds. You can change out the handles to either one that folds or a smaller one that looks like a T. I don't know if you can use them on all brands of windows so this is probably something you would want to check out if you are interested. If you know your window brand, I'm thinking their web-site will offer several different handle options. Though more than likely you can find them elsewhere, too.

Oh wow, on a golf course, how nice. But I never realized golfers were so nosy. They always seem so concentrated on their game.

Of course anyone would want some relief from the sight of golf cars whizzing by from dawn til dusk. lol

I found this on another current thread called Help with Window Treatements that Allow Fresh Air! You can lower them from the top to see the sky or from the bottom to enjoy the greenery.

I use top-down bottom-up with no cords/strings/etc. Even my 8' wide window handles this nicely. Get the kind that recesses in the frame. A magnet holds them at the top when fully open. A simple molding is nice around the edge. Got these at blinds.com but there's many sources as well as your local improvement center. You can even get remote controlled versions.
