If the can was rinsed, it may not be a set back. If you'd realized the mistake immediately, watering with a hose, soft nozzle spray (which I would have been doing with a newly seeded lawn anyway) would have been all you could have done to try to remedy. Now, it's wait and see if you'll be reseeding. But I have to ask, why did you have Roundup in a watering can (and a leaking one at that), it's applied as a spray to foliage, not watered into the ground or poured on - should only be in spraying type container. Please don't rely on memory to mark your products or applicators. Get a can of spray paint, red for anything used for herbicides or blue for insecticides if you have those and in the future keep them separate. If you are using and mixing concentrates, it doesn't hurt to mark the product container too, some of these companies use same color/size bottles for everything and you can mix something other than you intended. Put a blotch of bright paint on any applicator or product that would be harmful - to you or your plants.

Fives inches of soil isn't much. I would expect the grass to grow fine. How about before you put any plants in there, you put on some garden gloves, get down on your knees and grub around. You'll figure it out pretty fast. If it turns out you would be better removing the sod due to the timing of this, others undoubtedly have a favorite method they would share if you ask. I'd hate to think you gave up on the idea of gardening because something like this set you up for failure from the start. My love of gardening has seen me through good times and bad times. Those bad times were pretty bad...and it was the garden that healed my body and soul in a way my team of doctors could not. My garden saw me though the death of my life long partner in a way my family and friends could not. And the garden keeps me active and exercising, while I see others my age not doing as well, as they spend their days in front of the TV. Gardening can be a life love love, so getting started right is worth the effort. Plus you get tomatoes. Good for you finding this group and asking. Good luck. :)

"It" was stopped being made years ago." What 'it' was stopped -- the manufacture of glyphosate? "But by law the stuff made still can be sold until the supply is exhausted." Do you mean the supply of Roundup's active ingredient, glyphosate, will not be made when the supply that was made years ago is exhausted? "The PAN reference I was looking the other day says Scotts stopped in 1996. To still 14 years later have product seems unbelievable so I need to figure out how long ago Ortho was bought out by Scotts because this part still doesn't make sense to me as yet." Does this mean that when the previously made supply of glyphosate runs out Roundup will no longer be available? And that presumably Scott bought up Ortho's supply? BTW, didn't Monsanto spend millions developing plants that were resistant to Roundup so the weeds could be sprayed without it affecting the food crop and called the seeds to those food crops 'Roundup ready'? Why would they do that if the manufacture of Roundup is to be discontinued? I just read this on Monsanto's site: "Roundup® agricultural herbicides are the flagship of Monsanto's agricultural chemicals business. The properties of Roundup agricultural herbicides and other glyphosate products can be used as part of an environmentally responsible weed control program and fit with the vision of sustainable agriculture and environmental" Sorry to be so dense but I really don't understand all this. I didn't even know that Grass b Gone was related to Round Up. I'm not educated in chemistry and thought that the 2,4, numbers, etc. just referred to where molecules attached to one another and not were not necessarily referring to molecules that were related to one another. In other words I thought fluazifop (Grass B Gone) was unrelated to glyphosate (Roundup). But if they are closely related it seems that Roundup would be pulled as well as Grass B Gone. So if anyone can clarify some of this I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I suggest gaining a clearer understanding of how much fill volume is needed. Depending on its size it may take a dump truck as many as three loads to deliver 30 cubic yards of material. It's unreasonable to do this with your car. Using your car, at a minimum you're looking at 60 round trips. You'll need to bag, load, unload, and spread the material versus having it dumped into position and only needing to spread it. Between fuel costs, wear/tear on car, time and labor...it's highly impractical. Since you plan to place a concrete pad over this fill, there's also the need for compaction, and base requirements for freeze-thaw cycles and concrete pad weight. Over time you may be able to acquire the needed fill for free, but you'll be paying for the concrete mix whether you lay the pad yourself or professionally...and a poor base will eventually get you a bad concrete pad that must be replaced in a few years. This is a large job that ought to be hired out to professionals whom offer a warranty. I'm not saying you can't do it yourself, but at the very least hire out delivery, and hire a skilled helper because after all your time, effort, and money, the last thing you want is a cracked/broken parking pad. As others have already said, you need rock...lots and lots of rock and gravel. Don't even bother with dirt because it will take too long to settle, and after compaction it may still wash out. As yardtractor1 said, call a professional for a free phone estimate. Question them on the specifics of the job so you can gain an appreciation of the task before you. Ask for a breakdown between labor and material costs. If you find it unaffordable, at least you'll have an accurate idea of what's involved and the cost you to do it yourself. As an aside, kindly use another pejorative for shabbily built. Many cowboys know how to properly build a raised parking pad, and also own companies that build them. I'm sure you weren't being "obnoxious" or intending offense, but many of us from the Western USA might take offense. Thank you.
