Stressbaby, I was thinking along the same lines. I've even had a contractor help me out a little bit. I'm trying to find out if its okay to use a silicon caulk instead of the rubber strips that came with the kit that go around the polycarb panels. (The rubber stuff makes the panels buckle) I think caulk would work. I'll probably get some Vulkem or something similar to it to put on all the 'cracks' and seams. The only problem is if I want more than a few hundred watts of electricity in the GH, I have to spend over a thousand dollars getting a line run from the house. At least that's what the electrician said because there is only a small amount of volts going into my garage ( which is right next to the greenhouse.) I wish I could just use a big heavy duty extension cord from the house for this winter and see if the thing atleast holds its heat. Part of me feels like two space heaters would totally heat this thing! But another part of me thinks I would need a huge heater and even then it might not work. I mean if I get the darn thing sealed and covered with a pool cover I don't see why it won't work which like an appropriate heater. Plus it isn't a huge GH, it's 8.5ft by 12.5 ft.

eastbaymom- your cabs and floors look great, i think you are right, we could go darker but we would lose the contrast, so it just depends on the kind of look we are really going for river spots- we did look at 3 different maple grades at the flooring showroom. we definitely ruled out the grade 3 maple, but liked some of the contrast that the second grade offered. I can see however that the cleanest grade of maple might be considered the most contemporary. another possibility that i kind of like is white quarter sawn (or rift and quartered) oak. That would also fit in with some of the arts and crafts details we have in our home. and that leaves the option to leave it unstained for now and if we ever do remodel the cabinetry to have it refinished and stained darker in the future. I had never before heard of maple being country styled either but no fewer than 3 individuals in 3 different conversations told me that it was. i'd appreciate any other opinions as well as to what other woods/colors would look good with our cabinets. I originally had the flooring quote done in walnut, which i also love, but i'm afraid with my kids being the way they are that the scratches will look awful in a short time frame.

There's a Glidden color called Grey Squirrel 30YY 14/070. You can get a chip/sample from The Home Depot or any Pittsburgh Paints Store - they both have Glidden's Master Palette colors. Gauntlet looks VERY battleship gray (no warmth), Gauntlet Gray has a value of 5, that's about right. Hue is 1.42Y-so it should be a warm gray--tending towards brown? GG has an LRV of 17. And it doesn't have a lot of Chroma (colorfulness) so it quite literally is a near neutral gray. Meaning its proportion of grayness is greater than its proportion of colorfulness. Which is why you're perceiving it as battleship gray, no warmth. In comparison, Grey Squirrel has about the same LRV, 14, but it has more than twice the Chroma. Which means it's farther from a true neutral gray. It has more colorfulness and it's not going to look like battleship gray.

A lot of it depends on the style and colors of the home. So if you can, post some pics of the spaces. Tile is fine for the kitchen. As is hardwood. But if your nervous and choose to go with a tile. There are so many options that can work nicely with wood. Again, depends on the style of the space. I always love a checkerboard pattern tile. It’s clean. And matches most everything.
