A Young Pacific Northwest Conifer garden
Comments (18)Mike, and others, I appreciate your positive perspectives. While books, magazines and 'experts' create gardening 'laws', these are really meant for the uninitiated, those lacking ambition or those who don't want to wander too far off the proven track for gardening success. While I can appreciate the typical garden, I didn't want that for my own setting. People seem to want to be unique but a lot of them still seem to end up buying a red sports car, a blue minivan for the family and a golden retriever. Doing something different or unique is inherantly challenging and there is plenty of risk. There's certainly no guarentee that my gardens will turn out exactly as I planned them but per the cliche, usually life is about the journey, not the destination. As my gardens evolve, it will be interesting to see what worked great, what didn't work at all and what new things I try as opportunities present themselves. Hopefully however I mold it, my gardens please ME first and my neighbors/visitors second. I wouldn't want to live with a garden everyone else considered great if I myself didn't enjoy it. Mike I do want to say that your garden photos have had serious impact on my views and plans longterm. To me, it's a near perfect, lifelong project of intermixing a wonderful mature setting with collector and rare selections. I can't imagine designing something as majestic - but I can try! Here's a few more photos, I'm hopeful people enjoy them(but this isn't required! :) Pots, extending the garden onto the deck. My simply, but effective paths. Seperating shade from sun gardens. This grass is endangered! It takes too much water/pesticide/fertilizer/work, and it surely is holding back my collecting habit! -Will...See MoreCurious about the Pacific Northwest...
Comments (28)Melodiek~ My parents live in not too far south of Bellingham in town called Mt Vernon. Don't miss the tulip festival there, it's breathtaking! Their weather is a bit more tempered than in B'ham, where there can be some nasty ice storms. Having had the pleasure of watching a soccer game up there one year when the sideways rain turned to ice.... well, let's just say you aren't thinking what to plant right about then! There are some wonderful apple orchards in the town of Lynden, not far from Bellingham. Wet and cloudy, yes it will be. But it really makes you appreciate the drop-dead gorgeous views over the sound when the sun comes out!!!...See MoreCalling color experts for exterior paint! Please help, Pacific Blue..
Comments (7)I have Oakridge shingles in Driftwood. They are newer, and actually have blue in them, so we are leaving that $10,000 re-roofing project behind us and working with it. :) I tried to pick whites that were off-white but not cream. Cream looks yellow against the blue. Also, I'm doing deck rail in man-made hopefully and I want things to blend with those materials. Painting where I'm located and my lot steepness, veeeery pricey. I need low maintenence. I'll try to post a pic. This will just be lap siding and no band board, this was playing around. Sable in gables, which are very hidden....See MoreRefresh needed in the Pacific Northwest
Comments (8)Beautiful quilts. Love all the pattern and texture in the room. And I love to see a house and living room with books : ) . Very cozy and comfortable looking home. The fabric you're looking for -- does it need to co-ordinate with the print on the club chair? Or any other fabrics in the room? And what size for the rug? Completely off-topic, but I'm wondering what the sofa area would look like if you remove the smaller frame (move it to the right, and hang it between the sofa and bookcase) and then center the larger frame over the sofa....See More- Ruth K thanked Celery.
