what color to paint corbels/open gable/front door?

We recently had our open gable repaired and it needs to be painted soon. I have some sampilize whites (sw alabaster and pure white and bm white dove) and one dark brown (bm bittersweet chocolate) stuck on it that you can see from the photo. I was thinking of painting the shutters and gable white and the door black. But I’m not sure I’m going the right direction. Would a light taupe/grey look good too and pull from the color between the stones? The inside of the home is updated more modern with bm London fog (same color as exterior grout) and lots of white accents. Thanks for the help!

If you want to make a change, this is my take on your house. I added a wood pergola above the garage door for extra curb appeal. Wider shutters for main floor window, larger sconces, improved landscaping...

You are definitely on the right track looking for colors in the stone. At the moment the light blue shutters are the most discordant element. Is it a trick of the light, or is the garage door painted two different colors? Bittersweet Chocolate seems too dark and too brown to me. BM has a lot of good taupe colors.

I agree with the shutters…I think I’ll paint them to match the open gable. And the garage is all one color. It’s just a trick of the light.

I agree a gable will look all wrong for this style of house and so are the doors and that arched trim is also wrong over the door. Google modern house entryies and see what might work I honestly have no idea wahy you would want to cover a window at all. I could see a cedar 2 step deck at the front with a flat extension maybe over the door and attached to the jut out on the right . IMO a new paint color and trim would make a huge difference along with the new doors.

I think it should match the window trim which looks to be white. I walk by a house in my neighborhood with sail cloth trim & door and white storm & garage door and it just looks like a miss. Paint the garage door the color of the siding. It is not a design feature. Trim & piedmont should match trim color.

I would remove the shutters all together... they don't fit the windows.

Paint all the trim including gable the same color, lighter, not darker.

A color accent for the front door.

Oh that’s a thought! I hadn’t thought of removing the shutters. How can you tell they don’t fit the windows?

I’ve been debating that. If we should just bite the bullet and paint the trim and gable all a neutral white.

Please, Please remove the shutters from that upper window its killing me lol. You can tell they are too small bc they would never cover the window if they where closed. You could keep them on the front window if you like, but consider a little larger. I like the brown color the wood is now it adds some contrast. and the door I would be into a blue green color, so it doesnt get lost in the shadows. ( I removed the upper shutters, increased your garage light size and shutter size and removed the small little handle deals from the garage door.

I will add as my final note, the landscaping.. im assuming the builder did that?

Yes, we did not build this home or put in the landscaping. Just trying to perk it up one project at a time.

The plants are all planted so close to the foundation of the house. I would like to say remove or replant them all but the one in the inset with the post still around it that is going to be in a bad spot in 2 more years.

Hi Hillary, the colour is actually BM White Dove. If you know the colour of your window or can take a good close-up picture maybe I can help find the good match more precisely. But 1st check you the White Dove sample to see how it looks with your window, it might work.
