Help with a Reno!
Our dishwasher leaked and I need to replace our flooring. We have a busy home with young kids, pets, heavy traffic from pool through kitchen to bathroom. We were told vinyl plank is our best option. We have an
open concept home with tall ceilings and chantilly lace cabinets. I think the wall colour is repose grey but I am not sure, we did not paint the walls.
We are replacing the flooring, painting walls if needed, replacing countertops and adding an overhang, replacing backsplash and adding accent to fireplace. I am not sure if I should do light or dark floors. I am wanting to warm up the space but hoping to keep the grey furniture for the next couple of years). I would love help with flooring, counters, backsplash and fire place.
Floor samples I have:
1-Adura Max calico sable 7”
2-Coretec copano oak 7”
3-Expanse kiln dried oak 9” wide plank
4-Simply Stone western oak 3” in different lengths

Comments (32)I'm finally back---I've been a bit bummed as it looked like the reno wasn't going to be a go but our contractor got back to us with preliminary pricing and a start date, mid-July! We'll be meeting with them next week. We've got the financing in place with the bank. He's hoping to have the concrete poured and the addition framed by the beginning of August. We are on a time-line as we'll be living in our trailer and can only do that until mid-October at the latest. He'd like us to consider his Mennonite cabinet maker who does nice work (our contractor does the install) I do want to see some examples that aren't oak, however. I still haven't ruled out IKEA Adel cabinets but with the 5 hour drive to the nearest one, I'm not sure if the cost savings will be as large as it is for some people. Not a quick drive with 2 small children. The contractor is really good about accommodating special requests, my sister-in law's parents are very short and elderly and he installed pull down uppers for them. He seems to be able to tweak nearly anything. I had to laugh, his wife and partner is excited to work on our house as she likes my vision for it (Craftsmen inspired). Apparently every time they pass a home with elements of Craftsmen she makes him pull over to look at it and she says 'see? THAT is the feel Stacy wants'....See Morehelp... i have reno regrets!

I agree some wood and some plants and other decor will help to spruce things up... and also time to get used to this new space and just "play" a little! I had hoped to recess the medicine cabinet, but we learned we have concrete on the other side. We also faced some other design limitations when removing the wall between the shower and tub that forced us to change things up a bit. This is my first reno and it was a challenge for me to wrap my head around the many decisions that go into a project like this. I think I played it a bit safe, but hope this will be a room we can love for the next 50 years ! Comments (6)Never heard of black asbestos glue. And scrap[ing and washing asbestos doesn't raise the dust that is harmful....just don't sand anything asbestos. I grew up in a house with the hot water pipes wrapped in asbestos, and my mother used asbestos hot pads to set a dish on from the oven, and I spent many years with asbestos tiles on the floor.
