Thomas Jefferson Was a Failed Real Estate Investor?
Comments (2)Jefferson was notoriously bad with money. However, Washington and Madison were both quite good with it - then again they may have been considering their purchase a "donation" to the government. Jefferson was so broke that when he died he was deeply in debt and could not even afford to set his slaves free - they were sold to other slaveowners to settle a portion of his debts....See MoreReal estate agent is such a liar!
Comments (25)Well, I had a contract and during inspection (and subsequent research under FOIA) found serious issues with the property. Issues that the seller (and most likely the realtor) was aware of. I walked, but sure enough, the property sold soon thereafter. The property next door (same seller/same problems) sold a year later for a higher price without the problems being addressed. I know, I looked at it again. I was ticked off, but other than a complaint about the realtor, there wasn't much I could do....See MoreReal estate issues - sigh :(
Comments (34)Bunny my husband's office is in PA. He stays in PA for the winter but come to Florida once or twice a month for a week or two. LOL justerrilynn we are trying to get closer to Orlando and that is further. Plus, the lot is way too small and I don't think we need a $2 million house we're in for four months a year, LOL. Tax appraisals in FL are done in a weird way, there's a huge gap between appraised value of my current house and actual value. Plus, property taxes are SO LOW in Florida compared to our house in PA, it seems like we barely pay anything in FL. Thanks for all the comments and talking me down. I would kind of like to build, but also would like to just find a perfect house so we don't have to go through months of construction delays as we did in PA. We'll see, maybe this one will still end up being on the market in a few months and she said if it hasn't sold in 3 months to come back to her w/ our contingent offer :)...See MoreReal estate listings - reaction to decor
Comments (30)Littlebug, it’s happening in my town, too. We have 100+ yr old homes of every architectural style (we are known for Christmas tours of homes) … now being defaced by this horrible trend of whitewashing and graying up everything. Beautiful old brick and stone painted or limewashed. Old woodwork painted white or gray. Fireplaces being torn out for new shiny gray ones. Everything else exactly as you describe (is there some sort of guidebook they’re all going by?). It makes me sick to my stomach. And nearly daily here on Houzz, I see posters pushing Romabio because omg that brick/stone has COLOR in it! The horror! Lots of digital renderings get posted as inspo to turn any style house into a weird mash-up of Modern Farmhouse + MCM. Frankenhouse. I’m so tired of this awful thoughtless trend. And many of these changes are permanent. Bye bye history....See Morebbstx
