Stainmaster vs Shaw carpets

I'm unclear as to the relationship between Stainmaster and Shaw. I looked at options from both companies, and found that I had actually chosen what looks to be the same product - Stainmaster Best Intentions III and HARD AT PLAY III. The colors within these ranges have the same names from both companies. Are they actually the same project?

Why not ask the store where you are shopping. My question would be why carpet?

Stainmaster sold the company to Lowes. So stainmasters carpets quality are to Lowes standards now.

You shouldn't buy carpet just by brand names. Most companies make low to high quality carpets. It depends on what your willing to pay and where it is used. You should be buying carpet by thread count, twists , fabric, weight, etc. The internet will give you the specific on what to look for. Always buy the highest quality of carpet pad. Even the cheapest carpet will last longer with a good pad.

Why carpet? In cold regions it it soft, warm and toasty on the feet or kids to lay on, not a triping hazzard, absorbs sound, good insulation, less slippery, and doesn't scratch/dent/cup/splinter.

I do not know what resista is, but I will find out tomorrow. We are Central PA largest shaw dealer, and I never heard of it. It is not a polymer like Smartstrand. Shaw sells against Smartstrand with their Anso Nylon. For the record, Anso nylon off of Shaws new colorwall will compare with Smartstrand cost. For me ist is actually a little bit lower in cost. It has many features better than the smart strand. 1st of all it is a 50 year time tested BCF Nylon..it is in Softbac Form, Has lifetime stain included pet urine and has the absolute best warranty in the business. sounds ridiculous but if you place triple touch cushion under it, the texture retention warranty bloats to 40 years. I stock Smartstrand and it is a good product. Well sell a lot of it..but for my home, it would still be a nylon.Mohawk is now pushing the weardated style of Nylon. One thing that bothers me with Smartstrand is that they show bleach as a stain remover on their display, they actually show a stain removed with it...yet if you use the bleach it voids the carpet warranty. That just bugs me about the product a little. But they are both good products, smartstrand is the softer of the two. will know tommorrow what this resista is. I am guessing that it is Shaws Cleartouch Carpet under a private label. I am sure that's what it is. Now if that is the case, and you want soft...I would go Anso colorwall 1st, then Smartstrand 2nd... Everything else falls way down the list..and we sell them all...

nylon is pretty much nylon so no real difference. Wear ratings really mean very little. If the Anso or Stainmaster have an 'appearance retention' warranty that would lead me in that direction. The slightly heavier Anso may sway me a bit but it really depends on the construction as a higher 'number' doesn't really mean too much.

Oh good Lord! As if I wasn't already torn between the Tuftex and the Mohawk SmartStrand carpet. After reading these earlier comments I am really baffled! Originally I started my search for carpet by looking at nylon only since I heard that it is much better than polyester for wear and tear. But I happened into another carpet store today that carries both Karastan (Mohawk) and Shaw and the sales person seemed to push me towards the SmartStrand carpet. She wanted to show me the Karastan carpet that has been underfoot in their store for the last 10 years. She proceeded to push a heavy display fixture out of the way so that I could see how the carpet sprung back. It was amazing! Plus she pointed out that the SmartStrand's stain protection never washes out, while the Shaw Stainmaster protection washes out after 3 professional carpet cleanings. I am so confused on which way to go. And I need to make a decision quickly since I will be moving into my new home soon. The former owner left me with a surprising welcome gift---183 square yards of dog-urine stained carpeting. It was so filthy that I gagged several times while pulling it up and dragging it out to the garage. So I will be replacing all of that filthy floor covering with new carpet and my head is spinning as to which choice to make. Although my head could still be spinning from inhaling the very strong shellac that I had to use to "seal" any dog urine odors from making their way up from the sub floor. UGH!

Personally I like carpet in bedrooms, just not everywhere. I installed Shaw in my two secondary bedrooms two years ago and am very satisfied. That being said, @functionthenlook is right, there may be different grades of Shaw carpet. Bedrooms don't get heavy use, so they can be more tolerant than stairs for instance. Stairs see a lot of use so high quality and the most durable products should be used there. Plush isn't the best on stairs. The pad we used has a moisture barrier which keeps spills from getting into the padding. You can clean carpet but it is difficult to impossible to get anything out of the pad.

Also- I was quoted for an 8" Spillguard pad, but could upgrade to the 'St Jude' options in the attached screenshot.

This is all for bedroom use, low traffic areas, but with pets

Stainmaster simply refers to any type of rug or carpeting manufactured by the Stainmaster brand.
