a small small home update
Comments (19)Thanks MsJ, I do not think you have been lazy at all!!!! I think these projects which seem so simple in our heads tend to explode with the doing part of it in a hurry. I redid a kitchen the size of yours once. I tore out tile and old cabinets. Repaired walls. Ceiling was fine. Floor was ugly but I did not change it. I paid to have the cabinets and counter built and installed. I finished the cabinets and installed sink and faucet. No change to range or exhaust for it. All of this took me a month of almost constant working on it. I only worked 4 hours a day at my job. I was also much younger and stronger than I am now. This was over 30 years ago.Oh and I only had an L shape cabinet situation. AND there were no changes to what was there to begin with but newly built cabinets because the old ones were so awful and falling apart. So as I see it................ Considering all you have had to do over and above what I had to do you have done very well. Your space is turning out darling. The rest of your house will fall into place. Remember we have been here four years now. I keep changing things around because that is my nature to do so. I like change. We used to just move from house to house. Now I just wear out the furniture and floors moving things around. LOL Many of our things are on wheels....See More1700's house kitchen - small update
Comments (9)I'm thinking of sanding it back a bit to look more "aged" and less "washed". I'm curious what you mean by "creamier" Mtndredux? This is milk paint, but a couple of the BM colors I've tried on the cabinets are theoretically cream (Philadelphia Cream and Windham Cream) but both look yellow and white, respectively, in my kitchen (Camouflage is the one I'm most drawn to - not cream but I like the soft gray-green with the floors and ceilings). Suggestions for creams to try?...See MoreIn Need of Design/Paint Advice: Exterior House Update-Roof & Paint
Comments (3)I'm not a fan of painting brick as it turns a no maintenance product into a long term maintenance issue. The brick seems to have more browns than grays in it but the roof is gray. You need to find a color that marries the two. Something in the taupe family would work. Also, a couple of other things. If you plan on keeping shutters I would switch to a wider shutter that is correctly sized for you windows. The current ones are too narrow. Also, the area without a railing in front of the door needs to have one installed. Building codes require them if the change in elevation is more than 30", which yours definitely is. Comments (12)Thank you so much! @celerygirl, I always love your ideas! What are your thoughts on painting the brick of the main house and the siding on the boathouse the same color (like an agreeable gray) with a darker roof? The white boathouse definitely stands out on the lake, but I think all of the lake owners would be thrilled if we toned down the white some! :) I just don't know how painted brick would look since there isn't much architecturally that stands out....See Moreelcieg
