How do you make a room that is the color of an Easter Egg look...
Comments (24)In answer to the drugs question, yes. My drug of choice in summer is a really nice inexpensive Torrontes from Argentina, $8.99 in the wine department at the Kroger grocery store. In answer to your paint color question, to give the room a more masculine air, set it apart from the rest of your house (a real psychological advantage for a husband's lair), work with your creamy trim color, make that wonderful poster stand out, and reduce the perception of yellow in your oak furniture (and by the bye, painting the furniture would be a gargantuan effort compared with just repainting the walls), choose a rich golden brown. There's "Richmond Gold" (HC-41) from the BMoore Historical group...or Sherwin Williams "Chamois" (SW6131) or "Bosc Pear" (SW6390). There are a couple of the Affinity colors in the BMoore Aura line, too, but I don't have the chips at hand. (I like those because they actually can cover in one coat.) The sheers would soften it, and the warm colors and white linens and black iron and pottery and basketry of traditional French country design would work with it. The blues in the poster will jump out on that background, which will warm your husband's heart. (My DH says that no American man of any age has anything he first chose for himself, because whatever his first wife didn't take, his second wife pitched out..)...See MoreHow do I make this Stickley piece look good in this house?
Comments (28)Hi repainting, Could you help out another william morris addict? I'd love to buy direct as you did, but I can't figure out how. First I went to the Sanderson site, which led me to the Morris and co. subsite, which, on the FAQ regarding direct orders: "All orders are referred to our Specialist retailers, for more information please visit the "Where To Buy" section on our website for a full list." Perhaps you ordered from a UK retailer with a very low markup? All I can find online are retailers like historic style and pendleton woodworks. Let's see, I'd like to get 4 yards of autumn flowers velvet for a chair I'm recovering; even with conversion, it's $250/yd from historic style. I've got to believe there's a little bit of extra markup in that price! Now, I know retailers have to make a buck, but I guess at these rates I'd rather they make it off someone else. So any info. you have about what you did would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise it's off to Joann during a 50% off home decorating fabrics sale to find a compromise. I can get a velvet at less than 1/10th of the price from them. I'd pay triple or quadruple for a morris pattern, but tenfold more? At those rates, I'd be better off making my own morris stencil and figuring out how to screenprint on plain fabric. Or something. tia, Alex...See MoreHelp me make this big family room look good!
Comments (95)I disagree with most. I believe the tan / golds with the grey look beautiful together. As a matter of fact they compliment each other. So don't work against it , work with it and enhance it! This is a nice room that is in harmony with the very colors your are struggling with....See Morehow can you tell if chandeliers look good together?
Comments (2)I'm gonna say no? One has a starry constellation effect, and the other is stark like lightning. The only things that really tie them together are the dark structural pieces, but overall they look like different styles. We had a poster here at Houzz a couple of days ago who had light fixtures similar to those you pictured, and she had grown to dislike them and wanted to replace them with a really pretty chandelier with more muted lighting and plenty of glass, so just a warning that some people can grow tired of the look. The branch style was just beginning to come on the market about 10 to 12 years ago, and it's sort of past its peak. Also, the "Edison bulb" look is on its way toward being dated. You might take a step back and decide if you really like the fixtures because you REALLY like them, or if you are just picking them due to some idea of them being on trend or modern, because they aren't so much anymore as they have become more ubiquitous. If you love them for the style and feel like you will for the long run, then by all means go forward!...See MoreKW PNW Z8
