Lighting for Open Concept New Build
Comments (0)Re-post from Lighting Forum seeking more help THANKS!!! We are building a new home and are having trouble with selecting a chandelier for the dining room as you enter the home. Pendent lighting suggestion would also be helpful. The floor plan is an open concept making the kitchen, family room and four season porch visible as you enter the dining room. The dining room is approximately W=15’ x L=17’; all ceiling heights are 9'. Our thoughts are having a chandelier that does not block the view into the rest of the living areas. This is a photo of our neighbors same style home. The builder provides picture frame wainscoting in the dining room and family room with the wall color being BM Barron Plain Gray. The kitchen cabinets are ivory white with a gray subway tile backsplash with Arabesque tile behind the range. We will be using European Alleanza Vagil quartz on the island and countertops. We are not sure what style of chandelier the area calls for. The dining room table, chairs and hutch are dark cherry. The table is 32” wide and opens to 108” when it is open with the three 12” leafs. The majority of the time it will be 84”. We like the farmhouse look but don’t know if the home style is suited for the farmhouse style lighting. Also you do not like the circular wagon wheel look. We do not like contemporary or ornate; we are more casual. Thanks...See More400 sq. ft. open concept
Comments (147)Looks good to me but it's the kind of thing that you need to see in person to really judge. I agree that it all looks very balanced in your photos - good job! Can we talk about accent color? You had said yours was red. Was that chosen because of the red couch? Other than the couch, your red items are fairly small. The accent color should be 10% of the room and, for example, the dining room has the vase and salt shakers, but that's too little. If you are going to buy anything (e.g. a rug), will you buy it in red because you love it, or will 10% red in the room feel overpowering? Honestly, red is my least favorite accent color. It's not a relaxing color, which is why I am wondering about your choosing it. YMMV but I prefer quieter, peaceful vibe in an accent color. Green is always attractive, and you already have the large green plant. Blue is the classic calming color, and I see it in the beautiful color of the frame around the beach picture. That would be a great inspiration for a new accent color. Changing the color of some accessories can be as easy as spray paint. Or pillow covers, even a beautiful scarf tied around a pillow....See MoreHelp with Open Concept Layout!
Comments (7)The former owners almost had it. Put your TV back in the LR instead of the walkway. Use a mount that tilts. Get a sectional or at least face your sofa to the TV and get two chairs and a coffee table. The blue room is the DR with the chandelier? Your front bay window is the perfect spot for your settee and another chair with a small table. It's a conversation area. The walkway goes between those two, toward the DR or turning left to the kitchen, where youcurrently put your TV. That's a walkway...See MoreLight fixture to go with Wagon Wheel Chandelier
Comments (10)I don’t know if the size of this one would work, but I think something in this style would look great: https://www.lampsplus.com/products/hinkley-cartwright-19-and-one-half-inch-wide-rustic-brass-pendant-light__45d73.html Or: https://www.lampsplus.com/products/possini-euro-julian-22-inch-wide-rustic-bronze-drum-pendant__53x97.html...See MoreShadyWillowFarm
