Crawlspace ventilation to living space

mirage
last year

I have a question I'm hoping an expert or someone can answer.
So I have a crawlspace that has been encapsulated and there is a a short run of ducting that seems to go nowhere except to connect the crawl to the living space. There is a vent at the end of the duct run in the crawl and it connects to like a return looking vent in a hallway in the living space.
I'm wondering if this serves any purpose? Was it for from before the crawlspace was encapsulated and conditioned? Does it still serve a purpose? I'm kind of wondering if it can be closed up. I should mention as well that there is a dehumidifier in the crawlspace controlling the humidity.
The house was built in 1954 in Canada. BC specifically.
Thanks!
