Assuming the trim around garage building & garage door will be white, my vote is keep it white. But, I think it should be painted the matching off white not left with bright white factory finish.

Well, yes, going with house color is an option but OP said did not want that. The house is a strong color so I might not choose it either

That Sage Mountain makes it blend in better which is a good thing on a garage door for me:)

Thanks--just gave the painters the colors and we ultimately decided to stick with white, but made an eleventh hour switch from White Dove to Swiss Coffee, which should hopefully read a tiny bit more muted. BTW, this is the look if we'd used the house color--too much gold for me since I'm still very nervous that the color is going to be overwhelming! (We debated going a shade lighter on the gold, but the sample looked like it had the potential to go beige, so fingers crossed on this stronger gold that it will land squarely in the gold/ochre zone once it's on the entire house and not look like a giant blob of macaroni and cheese!) Walked the neighborhood and there is literally no pattern at all to how people do their garage doors--saw at least 15 different approaches, so at least it seems there's no "wrong" way relative to the surrounding homes. If we ever have to replace it, we will go with a natural wood door to match the house entry doors.

I still like the Sage Mountain on it, but that color is already a compromise for the window sashes (DH wanted a truer gray) so decided white was a better balance.

@artemis78 the visual of mac & cheese house 😆 But, now that you’ve given us the visual of house body color on garage door, I think it’s not bad! Especially given that you’ve warmed up the white to swiss coffee. But the swiss coffee should certainly read as less bright on g door. Maybe wait until some of house is painted to decide? BTW do you know about LRV level of paint? I struggle with the concept myself but I think it might give a clue as to how bright or muted the gold / ochre color appears to the eye.

Yep, we were shooting for an LRV between 75 and 85 for the exterior. Swiss Coffee is 84, so about the highest we had wanted to go--still debate if we should have tried the China White but based on the swatches it looked like it had the potential to end up more greige on the front of the house. Our house has an odd orientation where the sun on the more visible north-facing front is very filtered with lots of landscaping, but on the back is south-facing with bright direct light. Wanted to use the same trim color for both but they're kind of two different scenarios. I think an ivory or greige would probably have worked nicely with the gold and sage, but wasn't quite brave enough to go that route. The Swiss Coffee is theoretically quite similar to the White Dove--it's a slightly lower LRV, but also a little more color and should read a smidge warmer (hopefully!) I mostly feel silly for not sampling it days ago since we recently used it for an interior project and have a leftover sample jar from that.

Sun finally came out so I could check the Swiss Coffee sample in brighter light. Looks good on the north-facing side, though a little brighter than I'd hoped on the south-facing where there's direct sun. But I think no worse than the White Dove that we were otherwise planning to use, so should be fine. I will probably always wonder if we should have taken a risk with the China or Linen Whites, but oh well.

Definitely paint it all the house color, including trim. You can paint the trim in a higher gloss if you want some definition, but I wouldn't add another color which calls attention to the garage. No need of that.
