Yes, you can use same color, different sheen. It’s one of my favorite looks. Personally, I opted for a regular white for trim and doors, and a different white for the walls for the reason that I might change the wall color later on and I want to avoid having to repaint trim and doors. We’ll see if it works out in my favor or not.

Thanks. This trend is really taking over. Id say over the past six months its all i see. That and with white oak floors. I think they are even doing the ceiling the same. So it would go like this. Say you are doing cloud white by BM.... Matte for walls, flat for ceiling, and satin on the trim (or semi gloss)

We have low ceilings. We did everything (ceiling, walls trim) BM Chantilly Lace white in different sheens. 4000k lighting. I like how crisp it is after living in dingy rentals for so long.

Our main living spaces upstairs, including our stairwell are all BM Aura paint in Super White. Walls and ceilings are matte finish, base molding is all satin finish.

Not the best idea to get your inspiration for Tik Tok their stock and trade is fads!!! "Everyone" is for sure not on let alone following Tik Tok. Ya need to expand your research.

@arcy_gw I completely disagree. Social media is the best source of trends. Whether or not it sticks or is a fad is anyones guess.

I am thinking of going with softer white like decorators (not soft but softer than chantilly and super), alabaster, dove, cloud....etc

I like it, in general. You just have to put some thought into it because it can easily veer into sterile and uninteresting.

What colors I like on my wall have changed over the course of my life too. I went through a white wall phase, got bored and went big into colors....and now I'm venturing back to a much softer warmer white phase again.

@Ally De i agree with you. Check out BM Steam. I dont want sterile. its a high end basement. Going to use 3k lighting which i think is just right. But with chantilly lace and lots of walls without windows it could look cheap and bad.

White color is a tricky one. Don't try to paint walls white because it is trendy. you should consider how your room will look after. Main questions - size of the room, size of windows, sun direction. Also you need to know what style of furniture will be, what colors will be there.

If you do an off-white on trim and doors then that color will forever dictate future décor and wall colors.

To avoid regretting that color choice in the future, a better strategy is a cleaner, more neutral white on trim and doors like Decorator's, Extra White, Pure White.

Then choose a white for the walls that has more chroma (colorfulness). Also known as a light near neutral or light greige.

The key is to make sure there is a difference of at least 0.20 in Munsell Chroma values between the whiter-white trim and more colorful wall color.

That level of contrast in terms of chroma ensures neither color makes the other look dirty or dingy.

Go to The Paint Color DNA Table on thelandofcolor.com to look up Munsell Chroma values for all major paint brands.

There are filters for the table at the top. Check the "W" to display only colors of white/off-white. You can also use the Brand filter to drill down to only whites from a specific brand.

Like @kj s, we also did BM Chantilly Lace. Ceilings in flat, walls in matte, satin on the trim and doors. White oak [engineered] floors. This was 4 years ago, though, so presumably before it started being all over TikTok but I can’t say for certain as I don’t have TikTok. For the ceiling, however, we had BM cut the paint, as i remember reading that if you go full strength, there‘s a chance that the whites won’t look the same, despite being the same color, due to the ceiling being on a different plane (?? is that the correct term to use??) than the walls and the light hitting (or reflecting?) it differently.

For our basement, we did a sage-ish green (although its less sage than i was hoping ha!) because we were working with the space we had unlike your situation where it’s a higher end basement. That said, we did the trim and doors in the same color in that space as well (but did the ceiling white), as it tends to make them disappear, rather than chopping the wall/space up with a contrasting color…thus disguising the lower ceilings there.

Yes. It's call flop angle. The angle at which you perceive color affects its appearance.
