What architectural style is my house?
Comments (19)Wow, I wasn’t expecting to hear from so many people so soon, but you all know your stuff. I googled “‘80s contemporary house” and yup, looks a lot like my house:) Also, those of you who noticed the addition are correct, again, although I’m not sure when it was built. I would agree the cedar shingles are confusing as well as the arch style window. This home was a foreclosure. My husband and I bought it as our first home, as we didn’t want a cookie cutter house, and knew we could update the interior. Plus, it’s on a nice lot in a good neighborhood. I have always thought the exterior was unattractive...and i even like a lot of different styles as my decorating and clothing style is more bohemian or eclectic. I appreciate most architectural designs on homes, but not a fan of modern or contemporary due to it’s boring lines (IMO) and lack of charm and warmth. I’ve also liked lighter homes (stucco, especially) in whites or stone gray with black trim and interesting windows. With that being said, I am worried if I play up the modern that 1) it will be the only contemporary home in my neighborhood (well majority are traditional styles) and 2) it would not appeal to a lot of buyers (located in southern Indiana). We do not plan on staying in this house forever. Could any of you suggest a new color scheme in lighter shades, including the brick, that might look appropriate for the style? All of the modern homes seem to be so dark. Thanks!...See MoreWhat style architecture is our home? Ideas for sprucing it up?
Comments (5)I think you can remove the shutters - all of them or just the ones on the lower level; or paint them a different color. Not sure if you can remove the railings ( in case there is some sort of safety issue, but you can certainly paint them or change them out for maybe a horizontal metal spindle instead? And create more of a base for the columns. I would also change the garage door to something more interesting. I wonder if you can carry that small piece of roof across and then maybe put a small window in there. Of course changing the landscaping would help. d also get bigger light fixtures If you have more in your budget, you could do new siding. Here are some inspiration pics Just take your time with it. Have an end design in sight and don't make too many changes at one time - sometimes a few things make a huge change. Good luck!...See Morewhat architectural style is this house?
Comments (5)Yes! Instead of the two shades of blue/grey, I am planning to paint it one color, a cool gray and white trim. Thanks for the picture, it gives me an idea of what it could like like. I think I will add stone facing to the planters and column base. The door will be teal blue with slats, will add an ornamental metal door knocker to finish the Tudor look....See MoreWhat “architectural style” of home is this?
Comments (12)IMO you do the interior to whatever style you like ad forget the exterior for the moment since interior remodelling often has changes to the exterior like window placement. I do not think interiors need to match exteriors in style . As for classic I would need to see what you think is calssic. I have a MCM ranch that is a classic and I happen to love MCM so my interior tends to be similar. My last house was cute 1 1/2 storey built in 1905 really nice outside awful inside so we did a very contemporay interior but honeored the original molding and ceiling and loved that house . Do waht you love on the inside then come back when all that work is done and get help with the exterior....See MoreCharles Ross Homes
