Renovating fireplace

Becca
last year

We are getting new floors throughout our lower level (it’s Cortec Cairo oak lvp) and are having some kitchen renovations done. We have an option to have this fireplace renovated before new floors are put in. The contractor said it would be about $2500 when all is said and done (sounds like less if we don’t built out a mantle on the sides vs just a floating shelf on the top .. we just discussed this today though so I need more info). I’m not sure if it is worth it or we should just paint it and replace the mantle. It is pretty bulky and I think flat tile hearth could make the room feel bigger.

First 2 pics are current room (not actually decorated yet because we just moved in, also still need to paint).
Second pics are ideas for If we remove the brick
