Are you looking to just cover your front door, or have a full width porch, or have the porch encompass all of the front area out to the edges of the structure?

I don't have any particular design in mind...I'm open to any suggestions. Thank you for asking!

I think you need to tell us what you want from the covered porch. To me do it where the roof peaks that is doable .

The main thing I want is to be able to get in and out of the house without getting drenched in the rain, I guess. Thanks! But I'm open to any option that helps with curb appeal too.

You have such a charming home. I think it would be worth hiring an architect when you’re ready for the substantial fix. A breezeway similar to this one that leads to your door without blocking the light to the interior will take a talented architect.

so you want to sit outside while it's raining? is that your wish? lol

The roofline is low, but with some modifications it might work. I don't know what your budget is, but w/the right amount of money, you can do just about anything.

Why not settle for a pergola? of course sitting out in the rain isn't going to work, but anything else will be ok. And, this will be a whole lot cheaper

Many projects require architects, but this probably isn't one of them. A simple low slope covered porch all across the front with two or three posts would provide shelter from the rain, a place to sit, and curb appeal. Align the low point with the existing gutter on the right, and slope up toward the high gable of the main house. The low slope would be best done with a metal roof. I would make the porch 6 or 7 feet wide, not all the way out to the front wall on the right.

Thanks! I found that same one (3rd from the bottom with dark siding) that I do like. No, I don't want to sit out in the rain (ha!) but just be able to enter and leave the house without getting wet. Pergola's are nice, could help even if not completely. Thanks for the pictures!

pergola or porch overhang where it's attatched to a header beam on the house. you can space the wood slats at any distance. for example, we have one on our patio w/the wood slats spaced at 2 inches or so. and since we get a lot of sun there, I threw on one of those landscape material covers to shade the sun. it also does a good job of holding back the rain. you could do something like that if you like

This one is over our pond, obviously, but it gives you an idea of what it looks like. the shade cover is futher up by the door and waterfall area.
