HOUSE TOUR I Washington DC Home Gets a Glamorous Makeover
Comments (5)I enjoyed the video. I loved that she loved the design, and probably didn't give enough though to whether I liked the design (considering this thread is on a design website). There were elements I loved, and elements I loved individually but not in combination (like the burlwood and the mural you can see in the still for the video; I feel like they compete for attention in away that detracts from both). I really dislike the Cambria quartz pattern she has in her kitchen; something about the combination of over-the-top bold and super fake looking (relative to marble or any natural stone) just leaves me cold. Her pointing out the balloon on the ceiling amused me, and I enjoyed her storytelling in general. I really liked the laundry room, especially the artwork. I would probably never think to wallpaper a laundry room because of humidity, but papering everything was a nice effect....See MoreHOUSE TOUR: Artist's West Hollywood Home Filled with Eclectic Treasure
Comments (12)Bunny, I often do save longish posts as a doc file before submitting, but I haven't lost any lately – until today! I'm composing this one as a text file to start out with because my text editor will save it automatically. I'm trying to remember what I wrote before. First of all, I did go back to the video, skip past the doll heads, and finish the rest of the video, and I'm glad I did. I now expect him to mispronounce words, and so that no longer bothers me. I also have heard “Chesterfield” used alone, but my boss where I worked last absolutely forbade anyone to use the word “couch.” She thought you could not charge $25k for a couch, but you could for a sofa. I especially liked Kevin's kitchen – the cabinets are the same color as the ones I will be receiving (hopefully) in Cathedral City next month. His pantry/laundry room is like mine here in Westchester (L.A.). I noticed that Kevin also does not have a great sense of direction, since Silverlake is not in East L.A. (which is a completely different neighborhood, not part of the city of Los Angeles), and is instead NNW of downtown L.A. - not east at all. I've spent a lot of time in Silverlake and can see why Kevin likes it. I do not fault him for a lack of sense of direction – many of my friends have zero sense of direction! I like his yard the best, and I also have a large collection of epiphyllum (not epiphyllium), several of which are hanging in my back yard. Since all his plants are in pots, it must take quite some time to water them by hand, and if he and his partner go out of town, he would have to have someone do the watering for them – maybe a good neighbor. I've done that in the past, but the neighbors I'm friendly with have moved away. I do not like any of Kevin's paintings that I have seen – they look a bit childish to me, but many people like that style. I like his sculptures even less – they look like they were inspired by watching too many Twilight Zone episoldes. I do like Kevin very much as a person, and he reminds me of friends I have in San Francisco....See MoreHOUSE TOUR: Living with Bold Color and Punchy Pattern in Texas
Comments (1)Overall, I like it. At least the wall art wouldn't convey. (Though I like the one at 8:30). Or the tiger upholstery. I like what she did to the stairway a lot. The bar is very cool. Her "butler" is fun! Master bedroom is inviting....See MoreHOUSE TOUR: Inside a Charming New Orleans Home with Cozy Library
Comments (3)Wonderful. I like the home owner better than any I have seen on Homeworthy (well, I also liked the guy in California I think it was who was funny and down to earth). This guy is much the same, but a little more reserved, actually a lot more, but still so normal and relaxed. Any man so fond of his grandmother is pretty darn wonderful as far as I am concerned. I like the house a lot, too. I want that green velvet sofa. I will probably watch it again. Most of the time I don't even finish watching one complete episode because the owner's voice is so irritating, or the personality is so pretentious, or I am just not taken by the house or decor, but this one was terrific, I think. Thanks for this, Gizmo....See MoreDLM2000-GW
