Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 10/9
Comments (21)Great tips, Legomom -- especially taking a closer look at your food diary! I have zero questions about why I am "stuck"... and while I have done better this week, I am still not back on track. I seem to have this stubborn thing going that is allowing me to take kind of belligerent license. I don't think it is self-sabotage .. maybe it is a reaction to having my dental work pretty much done? I don't know... but I need to stop it RIGHT NOW. Like I said, I have been doing better but still not where I need to be to continue my weight loss. I will say this, when I am focused on healthy eating, IF and general healthy practices, I need only two meals.. one of which is often a glorified snack. I feel satisfied/not hungry and I can stay around +/- 1000 calories. Once I open the door to snacking, I open the door to mindless eating and sneaking up into higher calories. I know that I don't need the snacks.. and worse, they start to become something I think I deserve. I really try to keep any kind of self-rewards separate from my eating .. that is a dangerous slope for me because I think I deserve A LOT! LOL My latest thing to obsess over are my growing jowls. I don't have to look very far to see where they came from-- my mother, my grandmother and my great grandmother all had them and they look/ed just like mine. I think the weight loss is making them more apparent (also my visibly swollend thyroid which I refuse to call by its name). Not sure if I can do anything about them but hoping they become less obvious if/when my skin tightens up. I just want to take a knife and carve them off!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 9/10/2023
Comments (18)I felt lousy for over a week, just today feeling pretty much like myself (so far). Tested negative 3x for covid and never had a fever. Just headache, intermittent sort throat, fatigue. This has happened to me for years. I will randomly feel run down, that ”I’m getting sick” feeling without ever getting truly sick with anything diagnosable, usually just for a couple of days. I mentioned it to my PCP a few years ago and some tests were done. All fine. I do tend to run slightly low on B and iron, and when I had long covid a couple of years ago I was borderline low so the dr recommended supplements. I have dropped them since, but I think I'll start again. The iron I have taken is this liquid that tastes like garbage but doesn't bother my stomach. I was getting a little worried about my upcoming trip so figured it couldn’t hurt to add this back into my routine until I leave. Funky, apples are so great right now! I have been having one every day, often with almond butter or as a ”side dish” with my scrambled eggs. I find that they feel more like a treat (and take longer to eat) when I cut them up. Oh, and sometimes sprinkle with cinnamon. My bday is next week and I am already planning a ”good eating week” interrupted briefly by dessert that night when we go out to dinner....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 10/8
Comments (19)One thing that works for me, I guess not only for weight loss but also for brain health, is continuing to take classes in creative pursuits like arts & crafts. So at the moment I am taking an 8 week knitting class, and next week I am doing a 3-day workshop in printing and embroidery. Last night I took a one-night embroidery workshop too. Not only is it really hard to eat while knitting, I figure I am also doing good things for my brain, too, by learning new things. And side note, last night in my class, one of the women looked sooo much like Funky that I was totally distracted! LOL. Yesterday, using Peloton, I did a 15 min spin class, 15 min yoga, and 10 min lower body weight program. Later, I went on a 2 mile walk with DH. Then I did volunteer work in which I was on my feet packing boxes for 3 hours. If I were that active every day, I probably wouldn't have a weight issue. Today, I did a 2.5 mile walk with a friend. Tomorrow I expect to be lazy because I am getting flu/covid shots this afternoon, and I have felt flu-ish every time I've gotten them. Oh and while I'm bragging on my current good habits, I'll share tonight's dinner -- a vegetarian meal in our pursuit of eating less meat. Stuffed peppers with a brown rice/quinoa mix, black beans, onions, salsa, and spices, topped with a bit of shredded cheddar. Will have that with a salad. Oldest DS is coming over for dinner and eats soooo much junk...not even sure if he'll eat what I'm serving but if not, he can make a sandwich! PS but the other night I went out to dinner with a friend and had risotto and two aperol spritzes, so it's not all health-and-fitness this week!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 10/15
Comments (13)Jojo I am all over the hot mess idea. None of this is a direct route or easy. Especially when humans like me are involved ;-). I wouldn't bother deleting. I don't want to talk about weight gain today but if not here where? Suffice it to say I am back off the chips and cheesies once again.. Exercise wise things are going okay. It has been a difficult migraine time and the dog walking has been much more sporadic. Luckily DS is doing most of it. That is another thing I am going to try to step up on. Trying to figure out right now if I need to just accept that I need to take a headache pill in the morning. Anyway struggles abound but the success is that I am still doing my core exercises three times a week. Plus the IF which stops me putting food to mouth in the evening.. Best to everyone. I do read everything but my replies are unfortunately much more difficult to do with migraines....See MoreFeathers11
