Those are some strange pillows 🧐 - does not seem comfortable. I have a Cloud and I’m very happy with it, basically the most comfortable couch I’ve ever sat on. It does take upkeep though.

Yes, this picture definitely makes the back pillows look odd. It’s actually better looking in person but is missing those Cloud corner pillows you can use to build up the back for us short people. 🙋🏼‍♀️ I’ve sat in all three I mentioned. They have a similar sit and comfort level. What’s the upkeep? Fluffing the pillows?

I have a Thomasville sofa with pocketed coil seat cushions. Urethane foam and feather cushions get softer every year as the foam goes through its 10-year lifespan. Coils are still supportive years later. Costco has listings. Link. They're less than $6400. Even the Ikea sectional with removable covers that you can change with the seasons has pocketed coil seat cushions. Haerlanda $1500. 10-year warranty. If you want $6400 US quality, Swaim (1945) seat cushions are spring and down plus fully customizable. Link. The Originals are more than Kaleidescope.

Those pillows are very strange - regardless of the photo they seem to be disproportionately high. Of course I don't think these styles are used for anything but lounging because I don't know how someone would actually sit upright in the corner.

As for the missing pillows to help *short* pillow it seems like that is a benefit since throw pilows are both decorative and functional. Most of my friends are short and generally take one of the throw pillows wherever they sit for lumbar support.

I think the Cloud is a bit nicer looking because it has pillows that seem to fit the sectional better but I offer no opinion on comfort or longevity.

My understanding is that all consumer furniture is now currently rated for 7 years of use. I was shocked when my designer told me this when I redecorated and asked whether she meant relatively inexpensive stuff but she assured me that it was all of the consumer mass market furniture - even the relatively expensive like RH, CB and PB.

Yes, fluffing. I do it every morning, takes about 5 mins or so. Granted it’s only my husband and I (sometimes the teenage son sits on it but not often) so we’re not crazy messy people or anything. If I had little kids that jumped on it all the time I would not have it. I also assume things don’t last that long. Although I had a Lay Z Boy sectional before this, we never babied it and it looked new until the day I sold it with my house 4+ years later.

I can see the Harvard Business School 7-year failure model for non-furniture marketers like Pottery Barn. They have zero history of a quality product tied to their rep. I don't see it for true US manufacturers for their primary lines. Swaim Originals will not become a 7-year product.

@dan1888 I am not familiar with that specific brand but i do agree there are some very high end brands that are built to last longer. I suspect Baker is one of these with prices commensurate as I priced an accent chair and it was approximately $6000 which is a higher price point than stores like Pottery Barn.

When my mother was buying her furniture at the equivalent of Pottery Barn i.e furniture aimed at nice middle class families, the furniture was expected to last longer than seven years. But clothing wasn’t disposable either and I remember my mother and grandmother checking dresses I was trying on to see if the seams could be let out and the hem decreased to allow for my growing. It would be inconceivable for anyone doing that with a Target or H&M dress

There traditionally have been furniture manufacturers at the high end who offer large discounts off a list price to interior designers. Like Baker, now owned by a Chinese company- Samson(Hong Kong).
