counter height window bumpout, how deep is too deep?
Comments (16)Lol, at the belly flop mental image! Ok, if I have to ask my DH or contractor to measure my armspan in relation to the kitchen project, they are really going to lose it, they already think I am crazy enough! I get it though, and its a totally practical concern. (Little Fishies, do you have irregularly long arms?!) My contractor did say he thinks they can frame it in to get it a bit less deep, the carpenter will know more. Justmake it, your window is beautiful. Your cabinets look great too. Are you going to have casing around the bump out? Are you putting uppers next to the bump out? I'm trying to decide how much room I need to leave next to where the bump out starts before I start a cabinet. I'm going to check that out on other posts showing these windows. Little Fishies thanks for posting that. When it comes time to order I'm sure it will be helpful. Thanks again!...See MoreWhy you should always plan for furniture in the space, too......
Comments (10)The clip is just a classic example of not thinking about how you will USE the space! The owner designed it for how it would look, not how he and his family would use it. And I couldn't believe he planned a family area without enough room for the sofa. At the end of the show (next episode) the entire family is perched on this loveseat and chair....and the kids are all little. What about five years later? My concern is not that big furniture fits in the space. It's more about designing a home that works for your lifestyle. The forum is great for helping with that! It just amazes me how many people IRL don't consider it....or at least don't seem to. If you're fortunate to be able to build your own home, you would hope the bed could have room for an end table....or a dresser will fit between the foot of the bed and the wall. Even a small dresser. As I said, just my pet peeve. Too many "Parade of Homes' houses, where the furniture is staged, but there's one small dresser in the master and 9' x 9' kids' bedrooms. And kitchens with no room for stools at the island without slamming into the dining chairs....or not enough depth for any sofa of loveseat to fit in front between island and fireplace. Just my two cents :)...See Morenew tv- is it too large for my space? help!
Comments (31)Looks okay to me as is ... but it would look even better with a wider top to that cabinet and with the tv lower and w/o anything between the top and tv. You can keep the cabinet you have and still attain the wider look. Cabinet is too nice to just abandon it. IF you agree with those that suggest you need a slightly wider TV stand, simply add a top to it as deep and wide and in any material and finish you choose. [Think fireplace mantel or wide stair step or wide thresh hold board or countertop.]...See MoreNeed help…bought all new furniture and I hate it, feels all too white
Comments (11)I'm sorry you are unhappy. It's so frustrating putting in the time and money to make changes and end up with something that you dislike. That style of chair is really easy to reupholster, you just need a staple gun. Sometimes getting the old upholstery off is the hardest part. Aesthetically, I think you'd get the biggest impact from changing out the coffee table. You could look at Craigslist or thrift stores if you don't have the budget for more big purchases. It sounds like something in a dark wood would break up the same-same that is causing you grief. As someone noted, the dining table looks like it might have been intended as a kitchen island (I know my legs would not fit under the table on drawer side with the limited clearance there). If you have issues with functionality, that's the other item I would be looking for. To me it looks fine, and if the only issue is appearance I think maybe that can be addressed by introducing interest and contrast with wall art on the blank wall. But maybe you dislike its looks more than I do....See MoreHelen
