Need advice regarding painting main floor
We need to repaint our walls on the main floor.
previously i had been really wanting to go with whites. but now living with this over time and adding a few things here and there, , i m not sure if white will look good . the marble, fireplaces , pillars are all tan colored.
i did do my dining room in cloud white. that looks good to me but not sure how the rest of the main floor will look in that color.
please advise. already hired a color consultant for dining. his colors we tried but had to redo, so now want to not make it that complicated .

Comments (40)Again, thank you everyone for all the prayers and positive thoughts. Yesterday we spent the day salvaging as much as possible. Lots of photos, my mom seems to have a gazillion, and we're not throwing out any. All the furniture has been trashed as well as the carpeting. We'll try and save the washer and dryer but the other appliances are all gone. The beds, couches, tv's, small kitchen appliances, just too much to remember everything although we are trying to keep inventory. Today was spent pulling out the last of the carpets, sweeping mud out of all the rooms, washing most of the stuff in the kitchen and doing a million loads of laundry at the laundromat. We've got some contractors in who will work through the night to pull out dry wall up to a foot above the water line which was at about 4 feet. They'll be removing all the insulation from the walls as well. Cleanup has been reasonable easy because we were lucky enough to have a lot of help from the local South African and Jewish communities as well as from total strangers. I can't thank enough the people who are helping total strangers, the 10 yr old who gave lunch (an apple, bag of chips, sandwich and homemade cookie) to anyone who wanted one and she had about 100 sandwiches she'd made, the adults who walked up to you and asked what they could do to help or the elderly couple handing out ice water from their grandchild's wagon. My mom's car has been officially written off and it's covered by insurance which is a good thing because almost no-one here, including my family, has flood insurance. FEMA is coming in tomorrow to do an assessment. Laurie, thanks for the links. Thanks to all of you I think we got in early on that one. The lower houses in Horseshoe bend were almost half way up the first floor. There are dumpsters everywhere in HSB and driving down Sawyer Brown Rd is like driving between two trash levees 10 ft high and 15 feet wide all made of trash...furniture, lumber, carpets, dry wall, insulation, toys, clothing. It is the saddest thing I have ever seen. Comments (13)Thanks to everyone for your input. Based on the feedback from the pros so far, I see that next steps are as listed below. Please let me know if I've misunderstood or missed anything: 1 - Ask dealer to provide, in writing, load calculation support for a 2.5 vs 3 ton system 2 - Ask dealer to provide, in writing, that existing ductwork (both supply and return) is sized correctly to handle the additional CFMs provided load calculation indicates going up in size to a 3 ton condenser. 3 - Ask dealer to provide, in writing, that existing lineset is sized properly to manufacturer spec and ask dealer to warranty any future issues with lineset (critical parts are connections at each end) $1000 to replace is not advisable unless existing lineset is not properly sized. 4 - Get additional quotes on equipment noted in proposal #1 from other Carrier dealers (along with load calcs). Current dealer pricing is very high. Remove Greenspeed model 25VNA036A003 from scope given we have a gas furnace for the first floor (this is overkill) 5 - Existing proposal for backup heat model FC-2901N09 is satisfactory (9KW that is field convertible to 3 phase) Ask dealer to install staged heat strips and specify in proposal. 6 - Continue to use current 4 ton central A/C until it dies. Not necessary to replace at this juncture. 7 - Discuss lock out temperatures with installer to ensure proper energy usage. Some additional comments/concerns: @tigerdunes - in response to your last post, we are running emergency heat strip intermittently for heat. I have been turning the fan on upstairs to draw heat from the first floor furnace to keep temperature comfortable on second floor (around 68F) Thankfully, there hasn't been a need to keep emergency heat on constantly. @tigerdunes - thank you for suggesting additional equipment. In your opinion, is the incremental cost of the two-stage Infinity 25HNB636A003 (proposal #1) worth the investment vs. the lower priced systems you suggested? I'm trying to make the best cost/benefit decision since we do not have any plans to move from this home. If it were your home, what equipment would you choose? @mike_home - you noted early on that the proposal pricing for #1 seemed high @ approx $7K. Is there a price range that is more reasonsable for a 3 ton system provided everything else remained constant - same backup heat, infinity controller, using existing lineset? What about a 2.5 ton system? (i.e. $5-6K for 2.5 system is fair, an additional $500-$800 for a 3 ton system, etc) @mike_home - you recommended getting a 4 inch media filter. Dealer proposed upgrade to a Aprilaire 2210/2410 Air Cleaner for $300. Is this worth the additional investment or do you have another suggestion? @ryanhughes/tigerdunes/all - you indicated the existing VP 8320s could be reprogrammed and used. Since they are full touch screen models that appear superior to the SYSTXCCUID01-V Infinity controller proposed which isn't a touchscreen, I was curious to the advantages of replacing vs. using the existing ? What are the drawbacks? I'm very pragmatic about changing my filters every 3 months so I don't need a controller telling me to do so if that's the only advantage. @ALL - Should I only pursue Carrier dealers at this juncture for quotes on equipment? Since I have multi-speed Carrier 59TP5 Performance Series 95 gas furnace, I am assuming you all are recommending that I do not pursue Trane/Lennox or another manufacturer as it would create a mismatched system? This was the one point I didn't hear a lot of feedback on other than the Trane having true electronic demand defrost. Comments (9)You're in good financial shape. Don't worry about "overpaying" - it happened to us in 1989, and we survived just fine over the long haul. Painful for a while, but it worked out. And besides, we had to have a place to live, anyway. Might as well be twice the room of our old apartment and a free parking space in front as well, LOL. Your best bet to maintain top value is to not over-improve your home, but keep it in absolutely top condition. This includes doing anything structural or system-related that is needed as time goes on. We overimproved our house, but consider it worth it because we have enjoyed the benefits for the last 20 years. What actually makes the house saleable, however, are the structural improvements - a more modern open floor plan, upgraded kitchen and baths, the top-to-bottom electrical/plumbing/sewer upgrades (most homes here have a patchwork of old and new stuff done, not a complete system upgrade). You do not have to do this - in fact, I'd recommend you don't! Home improvement on a full-scale is a seriously slippery slope. You'll love the end result, but you won't necessarily get back that much more money on resale than someone who just kept their home in good condition with modest upgrades. Only you can decide how much a big remodeling project is worth to you. Just don't count on more than 20-30% of the cost adding $$ to your home's value when you go to resell it 10 years from now....See MoreReally need painting advice for open floor plan!!

You might consider going a shade lighter than the current color. Take a look at BM Pale Oak. last yearSo i hired an interor designer for color and other consultation and she picked white dove BM.
my painters are here. we are having skim coating done to remove the texture. before they started i told them to paint a sample on the wall of white dove , so i can see how it looks over the texture ( i wanted to see if we could avoid skim coating) the texture didnt look right so we are getting it skim coated. but the color looks so stark white!! i am shocked and a little taken aback.
i went to jclicht right away with my marble tile and ahowed her the picture expressing how white it looks and the lady there told me it would look better once finished .
what do you all think? i did bring more samples.

It was done yesterday and while they were doing it I hated it and felt it would be a disaster. But today I saw it after I got home from
Work . It’s not looking too bad. In fact I am liking it. ( it also proves my point that for me unless the whole room is done , i dont have the vision how it would look just by using poster boards, or even one wall…)
so overall i am happier , of course to the dark color before. its looking kind of nice, Though I feel it should have been warmer. That would have looked better. But the designer reassured me it would look “lovely” so I took her word for it . I am not sure if there was a better option , but because I didn’t know any better, I went ahead with it.
What do you all think? How does it look? Acceptable?
Still debating if it’s a good color choice for the rest of the main floor ?🤔
