Ralleia, Hello fellow Omahan! Looks like you should be a member of our local C&S club! That's a massive Jade for sure. I keep mine small by not moving them up to bigger pots for the same reason - small house, not enough room for a "tree". They'll stay compact and smallish if you keep them pruned back and in a smaller pot. Is yours a hugely branched single trunk? If there are a whole lot of smaller plants in the same pot, I'd remove all the smallest ones and go back to a single-trunked plant. You'd end up with a smaller plant, smaller pot, and something more manageable, and lots to give away. (I have a neighbor who asks for plant donations every year in the fall for a festival at Holy Cross... another idea of how to get rid of the excess...) Once you do this, you can shape it up and keep it a reasonable size by some yearly strategic pruing of both foliage and roots. Denise in Omaha (too)

Otterkill - the glass shower enclosure was custom and done by a local glass shop. I prefer not to share costs publicly online. Not to mention costs can vary a great deal depending on the materials you use, prices and deals on materials, and regional labor costs. For those on a budget you can replicate this look for less if you use a different marble or other materials. There are some great porcelain tiles and quartz countertops that can create a similar look for much less. Calacatta gold generally runs $20+ a square foot for tile and over $200 a square foot for countertop slab. I suggest shopping around to get a sense of what you like and the costs and then drafting a budget. Then from there you can see where you have give and take in your budget to save on some items and splurge on other items. And as always check out Craigslist or Ebay for deals. Who knows, you may find a wonderful deal on closeout tile or remnant slab.

This is a really personal decision about how things work and look. The doors themselves are going to be around 21" wide. Forgive me for not bothering with the fractions but I don't think it matters too much. 15" deep cabinet + 21" door equals the door extending about 10 inches further into the room than the counter top. So there is a potential for getting face-hit too. Me, I wouldn't do the glass doors cause I share your concern for needing stuff in the cabinet to look pretty (better things to do than worry about how 86" of upper guts appear). I'd have some concern for cleaning the glass - particularly if there are grids. Also concern of the glass doors banging into the sides of the oven or hood resulting in broken glass or beaten looking cabinets. I know there are some door stop devices but again, we're just not that careful of stuff but you might be fine. You might think about asking after sliders and/or decorative glass that somewhat obscures the interior view. Think about whether it would work better as 27/30/33" uppers and a gap before the hood, altho doors might stick out over the counters by 4-5". Another thought would be paired 21" cabinets instead with the resulting doors that are 10-11" wide. The door would still be just at the edge of the counter or just a little bit longer.

if the door will need a screen to stand open, let that guide your decision. we went with a 3 panel slider to our deck... two panels are fixed, one slides, typical sliding screen. from the den onto the screen porch, because we dont need a screen on the door, we went with a 3 panel slider that 2 of the panels slide open to make a very large opening. ALSO work out 1. furniture layout 2. how you will cover the glass for privacy and light control. no decision can be made in a vacuum.
