Exterior Design Dilemma Paint

Paint ideas for this busy exterior.

Our home is 8+ years old. We plan on staying here another 4 years. We are repainting. I've been working with a decorator and we settled on SW Grecian Ivory for the trim (it’s an exact match for the window frames), SW Anonymous for the body, and SW Iron or Sealskin for the front door, garage doors, and possibly the cedar corbels, brackets, and shutters but now I'm having second thoughts. The house kind of has a lodge look to it and I think it needs to be true to what it is instead of trying to make it something it isn't. There is so much trim and cedar on the house. Any ideas are appreciated.

You said it’s busy - yes, it is. Do not paint the corbels and corner trim and flat trim (on the front, I don’t know the proper name) and the garage doors another color. Paint them all the same color as the house body.

Thank you for your response. I was thinking about about just painting the trim around the windows and along the roof line with Grecian ivory and then painting the body and trim on the rest of the house anonymous. I don’t know.

I’ll post a picture from the painter of a mock-up with some other colors. In it all of the cedar is painted the trim color. I don’t like it either.

I would NOT paint the vertical trim or horizontal trim on the walls .. to me, that.looks like part of the stairs somehow. I think I WOULD possibly paint the grid on the slanty ceiling though (making the wood the same color as the ceiling - you would still get the effect of the grid pattern on the ceiling, just not so intense). Why not get some samples of those woodsy colors and just put them up in those spaces on the wall next to the stairs - the thing about wood is that it is such a strong presence in a room (esp. a room like that which is kinda arts and craftsy in style) that it can really look spectacular with a deeper, darker richer color to complement and balance it... you might find the idea growing on you once you see it. Or not! You dont have to commit - just see how it looks. Have fun!

Languid Blue looks nice! I think shutters would be too busy so I would leave them off. Save that $ and put it toward removing and replacing the overgrown shrubs and maybe pruning the tree. Congrats on your lovely new home!

Will definitely be doing interior work and paint as well. As of now, definitely planning on neutral and earthy colors with the potential of adding some of those muted/powdered jewel tone colors as accents throughout, etc. There is a dark wood vinyl throughout entire home & a river rock fireplace (more neutral colors) with dark granite shelf that I will be working with. Thank you for the advice regarding the brick, that makes sense. Also appreciate the suggestion on getting interior planned out first--was thinking if that should be a factor in my exterior planning!

what is the color you show in the first pick is tha your brick already painted (I sure hope not ) IMO the fastest way to devalue a house is to paint the brick . Iwould lose the shutters paint the siding the dark color get a MCM garage door and entry door and then do some nice MCM landscaping .So something like this for thebgarage and entry doors and this type of landscaping just leave the brick and BTW if you have grids in the widows change that ,
