I've dusted so long in my life that I favor less trim. That's it for me.

Honestly I like the simpler one better! Easier to keep clean, for sure. Since it’s not what you ordered, however, maybe you could squeeze a discount out of whomever wrote up the specs.

I prefer the one you received (we have the same) but will add the caveat that the one you initially chose will be easier to clean--the one thing we really don't like about ours is that those squared corners catch everything. So depends on which you want to prioritize.

I like the inner trim, I think it makes your cabinet doors look special without being fussy. It does lean toward the Traditional style.

The additional layer of trim looks upgraded and will work well in a more traditional or transitional space. The shaker is a classic that can lean a little modern if needed.

I agree with Artemis. Everyone always thinks the simple shaker door will be easier to clean. IMO, it's NOT. That routed inner profile (not really trim) is easier to clean than the flat shaker edge...plus the routed edge helps hide crumbs and dirt that fall into that crack.

Also agree (once again) with Hallett. If you want a more modern or transitional space, stay with the shaker. If you want a more traditional and classic space, go with the inner detailed edge.

Having both in our house, the additional trim as you call it is actually easier to keep clean.

Ok while we're at it - how do y'all clean that part of cabinets? ..assuming damp cloths don't do it long term.

^^everdebz- when I was getting ready to list my house, I cut Magic Erasers into little pieces to scrub the corners, it worked GREAT!

I find the best way to clean my white cabinets is to remove my eyeglasses. The cabinets are cleaned in half the time!

I think they are both nice. You could keep the ones you received & ask if you kept those instead of exchanging them, to get a 10-25% discount for not getting what you originally ordered.

I'd keep them and go w a chunkier hardware look. It'll be fine.

I like the ones you ordered, but like you, I would be happy with the plain shaker. However, I would expect a nice discount for accepting their mistake. Is the style you chose in writing, like on the contract.

If your signed paperwork definitely shows you picked the other style, I would say something like, ”I hate to bring this up, but you installed the wrong door style. I am sorrry, but I really wanted the style that I chose in our written contract.”

Then I would force myself to take a deep breath and pause. The key is to wait and see what the cabinet builder’s response is. Depending on his/her attitude, I’d go from there. It could go two ways for me.

If he acts like a jerk (like it is somehow your fault despite what is in writing), I would insist he replace the doors with what your signed contract states. If he is apologetic and says he will make it right or offers a discount, then I would work with him and keep the doors.

I like the ones you ordered better but would be more than happy to accept a decent discount (and no more delay).

FWIW, we had a similar situation with windows we recently had made locally. We had ordered a custom obscure glass, and the windows arrived with the wrong custom glass installed. They are lovely, but not as obscure as the pattern we had originally chosen. We asked the window company to either replace the glass with the one we had ordered or waive the upcharge for the custom glass, and figured either outcome would be acceptable. They opted to waive the upcharge (not surprisingly!), so we'll use the savings to buy window coverings instead. Not quite what we had envisioned, but perfectly acceptable coupled with the discount.

I actually like both cabinet doors with the trim and without it. I would accept without it was not I ordered if iIgot a nice discount for not sending it back and waiting for what I ordered.
