Help with backsplash

Hi All - Recently painted our cabinets (Sherwin - pure white and black magic) and installed new quartz countertop (Calacatta Royal) which we are very happy with. We recently selected the below pendant lighting. We cannot decide what to do with our backsplash. We would like to make a statement (til.e with brass inlay?) over the stove and having matching tile (without) under our cabinets. Just curious what others think? Want to keep a contemporary/modern vibe although we did keep the original terracotta floors. We are working on a brass mesh installation in the cabinets above the stove if anyone is wondering why the doors are cut out.

If you’re adding brass, it needs to be repeated in at least 3 places. Mixing metal finishes is not all that easy. Your floor is actually, and oddly, neutral, because it looks like a natural material. I’ve had Saltillo tile, and it just does it’s thing and fits in. Paint your walls n ceiling to work with your cabinets, not the tile.

There is a lot going on in the room and you need to keep it simple. Do not have two different backsplash treatments. Bold backsplashes date quickly. Go with the same Calacatta Royal for the backsplashes.

The Ivory walls and ceiling are not working. One would think with the warm floors it should but somehow it doesn't. Match the white from the Calacatta for walls, ceiling and all wood trim and doors

Tie in the floors with a few wood and fired clay kitchen accessories and decor in the same tones - a bowl on the island, two canisters on the countertop, and a small hanging cutting block. Not clutter, again, keep it as spare and simple as possible.

I would use a simple black tile with white grout. It’s a lovely kitchen.

If you like the backordered backsplash, just wait for it to come in. December isn't that far off. If you are worried your GC will be gone when the backordered backsplash comes in, don't worry about it. Either ask him to come back when the tile is in, and withhold some payment until the backsplash is complete, or, just hire a tile installer for the job when the tile comes in (look on Angie's List or Yelp). A tile installer will probably do a better job than your GC anyway, since he specializes in tile.

They set the tile directly on the top, making a proper silicone joint between the plane changes impossible. You'll have a crud catching gap with seasonal changes; too small for silicone, large enough for contamination. They should have set a continuous shim on the counter that was the thickness of the grout lines. Tile on top of the shim, grout, pull the shim and fill the gap with color matched silicone. Looks better and much more functional.

I think your kitchen is already making a statement. Keep the backsplash subtle. The wall color doesn’t really work well.

You might consider integrating the flooring by adding rust/brown colored accents around the room. We also might suggest doing a simple white tile that goes with the countertops and cabinet colors. Below are some kitchen and bar designs we have done which might aid you further.
