Accent wall color / general color palette

Hi! I need help laying out a color palette for my space (east facing room, so lots of morning light, darker in the afternoon). I have a neutral colored rug and couch, and then a family heirloom chair that i love that's blue. Since I have an open layout, I feel like any color palette I choose will need to brought into the kitchen area as well?

For the kitchen I love the idea of a slate green - but could that clash with my blue chair, if I'm integrating the green in the living area?

One option I'm considering is:

- No bold colors but maybe roman clay / limewash in a more neutral color (maybe a warm dusty color or gray?) on the wall with the windows

pro: this would allow me to use a green in the kitchen

con: i believe i'd need to integrate some green in the living area?

Any one have better ideas? Thank you!!

p.s. the whole space is a work in progress but i'm wanting to choose a color palette first to help inform future design decisions!

Love the blue chair. I would center it on the window wall to highlight it. Then move the credenza from the dining room to the living room for the TV.

IMO the lighting will skew every color you choose so make sure all the lighting is LED 4000K and wall color is the last choice you make so get everything else you love and then come back and we can help with wall color. If you must right now then this is my go to for a neutral I cut it 25% for a very soft color that works surprisingly well with everything.

Seeing examples as well as hearing about the success of her actually doing this would be very important to me. The opportunity for this to totally not work and end up tragically is very, very, big. I would personally have to see this work -- right off the bat I'm thinking there's no possible way this works even using the best color management tools currently available. First issue is original source - "once you have a pic or your fabric on the computer or anything for that matter". How that original source gets "on the computer" would be critical. This gyration of coloring reminds me of the "color matches" people get from colorcharts.org. If you actually pull the chips, look at the colors that colorcharts offers as matches, you end wondering who is smoking what. The chips I have pulled to compare based on colorcharts 95% or greater were nothing I'd call a match. Similar, in some cases, far from what I'd call a match -- unless the colorcharts number was 100%. Consideration of the subtle visual nuances of color is something coloring by the numbers simply can not do.

Such a nice space! All that wood is going to boss around your decorating. You are smart to try to work with it instead of fight it with cool colors. I think orange is definitely out as an accent color. It is just going to enhance the orange tones of the wood. I would consider painting all the doors in the dining space, it will make the space look less chopped up. I saw on another thread that you are replacing the kitchen floor. Have you considered a slate look tile with faint brown accents? Your floor will have a nice clean look and the accents will work with the wood and will look good with your taupe cabinets. I don't know your exact shade of color-everybody has their own mental image when hearing yellow/beige-but as somebody who lived with yellow walls..they're actually pretty versatile. I went with a vibrant palette of yellow-brick red-aubergine. Then as time went I added more colors in patterns etc. Blue would work of course. Maybe cornflower blue? Maybe turquoise? White and a bit of black. Greens since they work everwhere..bring a plant and you have a green:) But I also loved adding chartreuse. Look at lot of inspiration(can be decor but can also be art, or nature, and whatnot), and you'll feel what clicks with you the most. Decide what you like more -sharper contrasts? softer ones? As little contrast as possible? Do you want your room to be more upbeat or more quiet? there's no one right answer, we all are different and your personal reaction to colors and their relationships should govern your choices. And always strive to vary your textures. Then the room will be interesting even if you go with a very tight, almost monochromatic color palette.

I’m thinking three dark walls. This is B.M. Nocturnal Gray, but just a guess to colors in the paper. You do need some blue undertone to work with what I call the “mean” west light. My go to for west light is Patriotic White, so I moved down the strip to find something darker. This color would show great with the white crib, and you could add a white rug on the floor, and a white lamp on the dresser.

Great space! Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't do an accent wall at all. I feel like it doesn't work in this space. Also, it's east facing so cool colors are not going to do the dim light any favors. Keep it white and focus on bringing in color in other ways -- pillows, ottoman, artwork, plants, etc. Look for some kind of extremely large art for above the couch, or a gallery wall, and that can become like your "accent wall".

The light in your kitchen looks extremely cool toned and harsh. Is it 5000K, or is that just your camera? (If you like the lighting in real life, then leave it, it might be just that it's reading that way in the photo.)

That's great advice thank you! I hate the lighting in the kitchen. I think I can probably switch out the bulbs in the recessed lights to make it warmer?

Yes, try some new bulbs in there and see how it feels. Many of the "daylight" bulbs you find at hardware stores are 5000K and way too harsh. Look for 4000K, which is bright white but less blue-ish. Or 3500K which is a little more warm. Try out a few and return the ones you don't want!

If you are set on building a scheme on the navy chair, then yes, I could see green, but I think it should be deep with a blue undertone. B.M. Yorktown Green.
