Anyone surprised by the color of their wood cabinets vs. sample?
Comments (9)I'm a KD. I had a client that called me as her Medallion, alder cabinets were being installed. She said they were darker than my showroom (not a sample, a FULL display). I took a door off the display and drove over. When I walked in, I also thought they were darker! Then we held up the sample door and guess what?? It was an identical match. We realized that it was all lighting. My display got full sun. Hers, not so much. When she got bulbs for her can lights, it didn't look as dark. The kitchen turned out stunning. However, boxiebabe makes a great point. If a sample looks old (even more than 3 years old), it's probably a good idea to get a new sample. We are recently dealing with this. A homeowner's kitchen was installed. The sample is VERY close to their kitchen, but not exact. The homeowner is holding us to the sample color...they want it exact. I honestly think that 99% of the population would not have noticed that slight difference. The manufacturer remade the doors but they came back the same as the first set. We are very frustrated with the manufacturer. I don't think this is a case of 'it will age to the right color'. The hue is different, although very slight. If you turn off the lights and have only natural light, they look the same. It seems to me the mfg. must've changed the color without telling us. I can't think of any other reason. Our door sample is probably 3-5 years old. Kompy...See MoreI need a free color consultation for my kitchen please
Comments (4)Your cabinets will likely look a lot 'calmer' with different paint on the walls. I bring home paint chips from multiple stores to have the best selection of color. Your SW store can mix paint from other lines and match the color for you. Your floor is BEAUTIFUL and I would use it as the basis for color selection. I lay my paint chips on the flooring and walk around, viewing them from different angles. I spent a long time making my kitchen paint decision, even taking a sample of flooring, counter top material, and back splash sample to work. I'd lay out the paint chips and eliminate them one by one. When I continuously was left with the same color sample I had the paint mixed....See MoreCan’t figure out what color to paint my cabinets!

Then take off doors, and keep them in order. If you can reuse the hinges, best to do that, because, things change through the years, and its hard to find replacements. Using a small sander, sand them well. If you have gouges, etc, use a wood filler on them, and then sand again. Then wipe them good and its time for primer. Use a good quality bonding sealing primer. Then, you will be ready for paint. It will take 2 coats, and occasionally it will take 3. You need a paint, that is meant for cabinets. It has a longer drying time, between coats, so please follow the directions on the can of cabinet paint. Let them set at least 3 days after they are finished, then carefully, put the hinges back on, and mount the doors back on the cabinets. Leave the doors open a bit, for a few days, because cabinet paint takes a long time to completely cure, so even when it looks and feels dry, it wont be totally cured yet. I would do white cabinets in your kitchen....See MoreWhat color kitchen cabinet with Statuario Nuvo?
Comments (5)IMO that quartz does not work with warm colors and certainly not with Accessible Beige next to it. You need to choose 3 colors you think will work then get large poster boards and paint each with 2 coats of the colors . Make sure your lighting is LED 4000K and then see what works with the counters. BTW those counters need to be in before choosing paint colors so a bit backwards but doable....See MoreBarbara Adams
