Anyone have both polished and honed countertops in kitchen?
Comments (7)Our carrara was polished and they honed it for our kitchen and butler's pantry. We used the same Carrara but kept it polished for our master bath vanity. I like the honed better...it looks lighter and "softer." I do think it is fine to mix different stones and finishes in the kitchen, especially what you described. Sounds very pretty!...See MoreLeather granite vs polish to pair with polish marble backsplash?
Comments (14)It clashes horribly. You have to vote one off of the island. If you keep the backsplash, you can’t use that counter. You need a more solid quartz with it. Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish over $300 worth of tile here. The $1800 install labor for the professional tiler is where the big expense will be. Comments (66)Ugh, this granite decision is the worst lol. I looked at the inventory online for this place and wrote down what I wanted to see, but none of the bundles I liked were out for display. So I asked about them and they said they could pull them out for me. But I had like 6 or 7 I wanted to see and that seemed like a lot, so started with 2 and then pulled one more. The Blue Dunes I had high hopes for was much browner in real life. But when I got home and looked online again, I saw that the slab they pulled looked nothing like the picture online--the pattern was completely different. The one they pulled was labeled with the right number, so not sure what's going on. There was a Blue Dunes on the showroom floor that wasn't online and I liked that one. I might get it. I'd still prefer more gray and less brown, but I kept going back to it. And when I spied it as I was coming around the corner to the next aisle, I liked it, which is what keeps happening when I see Blue Dunes, so maybe that's telling me something. I just don't want to get and feel like my whole kitchen is too brown. My husband, who has mostly stayed out of all the choosing and decision making for everything, decided to go with me. He said it was too brown, but partly was echoing my concerns (brown floor, brown cabinets) and ultimately doesn't care that much and said I should get it. We looked at Lennon, but as much as I keep looking at it, I keep not *quite* liking it. We also looked at various silver cloud/silver stream, which husband initially liked, which surprised me because it's a lot of movement and I didn't think he'd like that. Very swirly black and white. I might call Monday and take the slab in the picture. Or I might go back next weekend and see if I can find the one that looks more gray online, though I know it has brown in it too. Here's a link to that one. https://www.msisurfaces.com/slabinventory/search/slabs/granite/azul-celeste/baltimore-slabs/shr653-07/msi/...See MoreCountertop leathered granite changing color ( !! )
Comments (10)vinmarks and Beth H. - Ty both for your comments. The sample that I have was with the slabs of the Leathered Black Pearl / from the same lot. That's how they had the samples organized. There were three slabs and I reserved one. All looked the same / all looked black / no brown or white. They were outside and I saw them several times - so def. would have noticed it. Looked just like the sample that I still have. Also chose another stone for an island and I was adamant with the salesperson that that I didn't want anything with a brown tone, tinge or marks in it - as she had shown me a brown swirled granite as a possibility. Was very clear about wanting the LBP as it was black and I loved the texture. When first installed - they looked fine. However, not so long after they seemed to be changing color slightly. I am a painter and do have a fairly keen eye for color. Anyhow, months later - they have very clearly changed - and believe that they stiil are. I have read about some stone companies dying the stone and strongly suspect that may be the case. The counters do look black from a distance - but once you get close you see the various browns and whites. In the sunlight it is brutal - so brown and I just absolutely hate it as it is nothing that I would ever pick. I wanted something different from the usual kitchen look - not a fan of the look of polished granite and sort of a nod to soapstone. This is not what i understood to be getting and, at the end of the day, the sample that matched the slab that I bought is absolutely different from what I unfortunately have in my kitchen right now. Thank you both...See Moreelcieg
