Outdoor Copper Planter..any advice??
Comments (2)You might use them as cachepots. That way you could lift out the inner pot to dump out excess water. No amount of pebbles is going to protect against a drenching rain or an over-enthusiastic watering....See MoreUse a saucer with outdoor planters?
Comments (1)Depending on what's in your water, you may get some mineral build up eventually. Some people report staining from potting soil, usually this seems to get blamed on peat moss in the mix. I've never seen it happen myself. On the other hand, I nearly always use saucers, and water carefully with an eye to NOT overrunning the saucer - so anything like that would be kept inside the saucer. I usually use saucers because it's neater when watering. I feel like (with no basis in peer-reviewed research) keeping the water where the plant is is less wasteful, especially now that I've moved to a desert clime. Because it can soak the rest up during the day. Or it evaporates off during the day and provides a teeny bit of extra humidity - but then this is a very dry climate I'm in now. Other places I have lived were already plenty humid! It also lets me bottom water occasionally. Saucers are usually too shallow to do any damage when bottom watering, especially in the summer. I am shifting over to drip irrigation for everything, including in pots. One summer I had all my plants AND all my neighbor's plants - even the hanging baskets - on drip irrigation. My water bill went way down and everything grew like crazy beause it was so evenly watered. Had the whole thing on a timer. It was great....See MoreOutdoor Planter Irrigation?
Comments (1)kk, If it was made from PVC pipe I would say it is a bubbler and would be controlled from your controller but it is made out of what looks like a threaded black iron pipe which makes me think it might be a gas line but for what? Some kind of torch or maybe under some kind of BBQ set up. But why so low and close to the house. Could be a vent from your stove. Best Bet, have a plumber check out where it goes up inside the wall and goes into your attic space. Go into the attic and see if you can see a iron line coming from that wall edge across your attic to another wall that may have a valve somewhere. Hope someone can recognize it specifically because I am getting brain damage from guessing. JMHO Aloha...See MoreAdvice on "runners" in raised planter with hibiscus
Comments (7)I'm particularly fond of Dichondra Silver Falls, it creates a lovely cascade effect and has a very pretty silvery shimmer in the sun. :) I have some planted in a raised planter, like yours, in full sun with roses and spilling ove with ivy geranium and some in part sun in a raised planter with succulents. They have both grown well for many years and you can just trim the length to however long you want it. The individual vines can root along the stems so I let some spilling over and put some vines back within the planter box to root. I found it just meanders along, it hasn't choked anything out, forming a pretty bright groundcover. They also have a newer version called emerald falls, same trailing plant but with slightly larger green leaves vs. silver leaves. I took this pic locally of Silver Falls in a hanging basket that I thought was well done. It looked lovely waving in the breeze....See Moresara cole
