Design Dilemma Kitchens

Need help picking backsplash…cloe or Riad? Pictures in thread.

Hi. I need some help picking backsplash tile. I have attached pictures of what my kitchen drawing and my bar drawing look like.

My kitchen will have white cabinets on the perimeter and the floating shelves will be Oak with a white wash. This will match the kitchen island that will be Oak with a white wash as well. The kitchen counter will be Smithfield quartz by Cambria.

My bar will be black cabinets. The floating shelves will be OK with a white wash the same
as in the kitchen. The bar counter will also be Smithfield by Cambria.

these are my cabinets colors. White for the perimeter kitchen, oak for the floating shelves and island. black for the bar area and oak for the floating shleves in bar.

these are the tiles . 5x5 cloe, 2.5x8 cloe and 4x4 riad. my counter is the smithfield slab in the center

Why not do something more fun that has a black and white pattern? The countertop veining looks pretty subtle, so you could go a bit more bold with your tile choice. Something like this in marble could be very pretty and classic:

Or you could do a porcelain tile that looks like cement:

You could also do cement tiles, but I find them too high maintenance. The porcelain gives you a similar look with a lot less fuss in terms of sealing, etc.

You’re gonna hate me but you really need to wait to choose your backsplash tile when the kitchen is done. That means cabinets, countertops and lighting (especially) have to be in place to make the right color decision.
Your choices all look good but you will not know how they look vertically in your new kitchen. Please don’t buy any tiles in advance.

Nice choices for the kitchen so far!

Hi all, I just posted this on the "Swap thank you" thread, and I'm gonna post it here too! I seem to have come home with fewer of the black plastic plant trays than I arrived with! I really, really need them to grow stuff in and to carry stuff around in for the swaps, so if you wound up with oneor morewould you please keep them and bring them back to the Fall Swap so I can get them back to use again? I use them to move stuff around my yard when Im growing it before the swap, and with as much as I bring, it would be impossible to handle it all without the trays to put it in. Advice needed re picking kitchen window- pictures please?

I went with a casement bay window and I love it. It's an Anderson 400 series and its their smallest bay window. I went with the bay because I wanted a larger span of windows than a single and I didn't want the center divide that would be created with 2 windows. Three windows seemed to be just too large since I still wanted upper cabinets. I also bumped it out to have a large place to put plants (but my basil plant already died, so I need to work on my green thumb skills). Here it is: The center window doesn't open. The two sides open. Mine is not to the counter for reasons too boring to get into as well, but I love that it is low. Note that this type of window above my bumped out sink base could make it difficult for a short person to reach the cranks to open the window, but I am tall and its not an issue for me.

I agree - love the floor but I think I would go with something simpler. I would look at different countertops, too. I know people (like someone above) always say that keeping things a darker single color makes a small space look bigger, but that's never my experience! I always think an all white space looks the biggest! So I'd do the white shaker cabs with maybe a white countertop and backsplash. We've purchased the pure white quartz from ikea, as well as the pure white acrylic (corian) and both look great and modern. If you think this house might appeal to some artsy hipster types, I also like the Marsta door which channels a midcentury vibe. It is on supersale right now. The space is small so I'd bring in interest with hardware and a lighting fixture.
