Update the curtains; those are the wrong style for your modern furniture and they should hang differently. With curtains hung properly, the sofas should sit arm-to-arm, so slide the one on the wall to touch the one at the large window. Also, pull the one at the widow away from the window by at least 6 inches.. With the sofas touching, you'll likely have room for the two swivels to sit perpendicular to the single window with their backs to the kitchen. You'll create a "U" of seating and the smaller wall will be for TV on a credenza that is 25% wider than the TV. Once the furniture is in place, shop for a large area rug. It doesn't need to go under the TV credenza, but should slip 1/3 to 1/2 of the way under the two sofas. The swivel chairs will need to be entirely on or off of it or they won't swivel properly. Then on to art (hung 5" above the wall sofa, and more accessories.

Thank you for responding! This living room is just around the corner from our family room and we were not planning on adding a TV to this space. I did order a cabinet for the space though. Can I just hang a large painting or mirror in that space?

I'd change out those curtains since they look a bit too grannyish for the furniture.

Are you married to that wall color? it appears a tad too warm w/all the gray in the room and seems to be fighting a bit.

With those chairs,sofa and pillows, soemthing in the blue or blue gray family would look better. Or go for a white. Like this wall color

woven wood blinds w/drapes (and no foofy valance) an olive tree, some texture like the little table, diff pillows, and a soft blue/gray rug. these are the colors you want w/your sofa, not that tan color on the wall.

Do you have any art? any large pics or canvas pieces you like?

I think a warm wood console would be perfect.

ruggable has this one. pair it w/a coffee table like shown, chunky throw, diff pillows, and some art.

for the chair nook, try something like this design

if you want curtains, do something like these. and a rug like this (check out Loloi. wayfair I think) bring in some texture, some warm leather, a basket, plant, black/white prints (I'd repaint your walls thought. will look so much better)

You have a lot of gray. you need some light, texture and color and warmth.

The wall color is a conversation in our house. The entire interior of the house is painted that color and my husband has asked that I not paint for a year. I’ll bring it back up though. The curtains came with the house and I’m totally open to changing them out. Love the Roman blinds!

I won’t be using any of my art for this room, so I’m a blank slate. But a blank slate with no ability to conceptualize possibilities, so I really appreciate your ideas!

You're trying to work around a wall color that doesn't jive w/everything else in the room. You're going to pick out colors and art to work w/the floors/sofa, but now have to work w/that wall color? (One is a gray, the other is a beige. They don't coordinate) but in a year you can change it?? I don't get it.

Can't you just paint this living room walls and the entryway?

Why did you go w/gray sofa and gray vinyl floors, only to have this wall color? A more neutral sofa/flooring could have worked w/the walls.

The walls, flooring and curtains were there when we moved in. The sofa and chairs were chosen to fit our lifestyle with 2 teens and pets in addition to liking it.

The paint issue is more a function of a very busy life in the midst of job changes and a move across the country and family priorities we are contending with.

Not ideal, but there it is.

even if you just take the weekends (a few hours) you could knock out that room in no time. take an hour and cut all around the trim/baseboards. when you have another few hours, roll out the wall. (or one wall). etc, etc. Very simple and easy to paint that one room rather than trying to work around it. I like your sofas. But with all of the ideas I gave you in my first comment, I think a nice white would look best. Try simply white. (and you can even get it color matched at Home Depot for Behr paint. While I did my living room in BM simply white, for the hallway I had it matched w/Behr paint since I prefer painting w/it a bit better.

try something like this. you can modfy Ikea book cases, add your own trim, paint and add a wood top to it. yours isn't this long, so it wouldn't be that difficult to do. buy stock lower cabinets and paint them.

I like this woven type of wood console. the vertical wall panel in a dark color would also look nice in that spot

bunch of diff ways that you could jazz up that wall.

don't know if the tv is going there, if not, you could do some floating shelves and turn it into a desk area, or add bookcases

even if you do have a tv to mount, wall mount it and make these floating shelves to go around it. these are pretty easy to DIY

I think I would start with finding an area rug that I liked with both the chairs and the sofas and that matches your love of color. You may just need to remove the top on the curtains for now and leave the paint until you figure out what color palette you want. There are 100000 paint colors, but limited choices in area rugs that will work with the sofas and chairs that are busy enough to not show every piece of dirt and not so busy as to distract from the chairs.

Rugs Direct Wayfair and some other sites let you visualize the carpets in your room.

Once you find the rug that makes your heart sing you can change the wall color, add art and finish the room.

Is there enough room to implement a layout like the one below?

Check out eBay for rugs—there is an awesome, affordable (1-4k) selection of high-quality and bold, modern and tribal stuff that you won’t find on Wayfair, etc.

Beverly has laid out the arrangement I described. I think the new credenza with art will be perfect, although the swivel chairs will need to be a bit further apart to function well, and will have to sit entirely on or off the rug to be level for turning.

I got it pretty close to the set up described and in the sketch although my chairs are a bit bigger and my credenza will need to sit back further towards the kitchen. Im going to give it a couple days to arrive so that I can make sure I find the right layout before I measure for the rug.

I’m going to have to work with the wall color. I’m not going to get my way on this (we talked about it again) and we all know how difficult marriage compromises can be. So the beige stays.

Every time I plug in a rug in those visualization apps though I find myself leaning towards a more solid red or orange. Maybe I just can’t see past the pattern in the chairs and don’t trust my eye for what works and what doesn’t.

I have a strong bohemian flare and we live in the desert if that helps with my color scheme. I also don’t want to make much in the way of structural changes to the house at this point until we are certain this is the house we want to stay in longer term and some time opens up for me to tackle projects.

I wasn’t going to put a coffee table in this space, but I really like the ideas shared and would reconsider that addition. I also like the little round table by the window idea. The mom in me though sees both spaces as a dumping ground for my kids’ crap. You guys have a gift to be able to see these possibilities and I appreciate your kindness in sharing suggestions.
