What should I put above couch
Comments (12)Get a cabinet for the TV when you just said I have too much furniture? My main purpose in my house is hosting groups of people, we constantly have people over so if I have to choose between more seating and a cabinet, seating wins, every time. The rattan chair was given to us for free, I don' like it but it adds seating so it stays. And finally, everyone chooses which battles they are going to fight with their kids, for me I would rather go through the trouble of hanging my stuff a little higher and avoid them making it fall and hurt them and focus on other lessons that are more important right now. Honestly, you'e comment was the most unhelpful I have ever received here but it makes me never want to ask for advise from here again. Interior design is different for everyone because every one has different priorities and needs and if you're going to give advice to someone of their design, make sure you are trying to serve them accordingly, and if you can't then just refrain from saying any comment at all because at that point you are only serving yourself...See Moresectional couch or a couch and loveseat ?
Comments (8)OK, Priya - I have done two layouts. Your main problem is maintaining "walkways" through your space. Plus the TV being in the far corner is challenging for sure. These are two approaches for your review. We like to keep 3' passing/walkways through spaces, about 18" from front of sofa edge to a coffee table and at least 2' between chairs and other furniture such as sofas. The first layout puts the TV on a console along the long wall. this provides easy walk space and a chaise or bench in front of the fireplace provides additional seating to watch TV or sit by a fire. I couldn't read the tiny print too well on your drawing, but did the best I could to scale it to the main seating area. The Scale is 1/4"=1' or each little square is equal to one square foot. I put a sofa table behind the 84" x 44" comfy sofa and one or two lamps could sit on that sofa table. I didn't have a good idea of where that window is along that wall but it looks on the drawing like it is roughly across from the long wall. The coffee table is 44 x 22 which allows walking space from sofa around the space....See MoreBlank space around/under wall mounted TV
Comments (4)Well, when you hang those photos keep in mind these guidelines: Hang single artwork at eye level, and 57-60 inches from center to the floor. If you're hanging your art above furniture, it can be 4-6 inches above the piece. If the art is going above a sofa or console, the piece should be approximately 2/3 width of the furniture. And if you buy rugs: If you’ve got a room-sized area rug, leave at least two feet of bare floor around it in a large room and at least 12 inches in a smaller room, so it doesn’t look like you ran out of carpet. For a smaller area rug, make sure it’s large enough to allow at least the front two legs of your furniture to rest on it, but not so large that there’s more than two feet of empty rug beyond the furniture. In the living room: Keep sofas and chairs 14-18 inches from tables, and at least 2.5 feet no more than about 8 feet apart. Don't line the walls with seating unless you have a tiny room. If you avoid skimpy curtains, too high wall decor, too small rugs, and furniture that is too far apart you will be way ahead of the other bachelor padders!...See MoreWhere to put couch and tv in this “ one bedroom apartment”?
Comments (14)If you have other options, I would pass on that apartment. It may have one bedroom, but it essentially has no living space. The "room" where the entrance is is essentially unusable due to traffic patterns, so any living you are going to do will be in the kitchen or bedroom. If it weren't for the partial room dividers between the entry room and the kitchen, you could probably make an okay combined space. As it is...I would pass on it unless the price was AMAZING, the location was PERFECT, or there was nothing else available....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
