Kitchen Remodel Floorplan help

Need advice on my planned kitchen remodel layout. A few notes: I have two areas (23"X40") that jut out due to an existing kitchen bump out, I plan to open up the dining room entrance into the kitchen with a cased opening and peninsula, I plan to steal space from a coat closet that is adjacent to my kitchen to hang the uppers above the peninsula, I plan to move the sink to another wall and move the range over by a couple of feet, and I plan to remove the window that is over the current sink on the east wall.

Apologies for the non-professional renderings--used Ikea's free software so it's not perfect, but I hope you get the idea. And please ignore the mess in current kitchen.. Thanks for any advice!

@Verbo and if you cant be helpful, please dont comment. the link was the only way to condense the pictures and display them from current/ prospective angles together.

Are you adding a soffit on top of the cabinets above the peninsula? Can you post dimensions?

I'm having a hard time seeing all the details in the pic because it's too small. Is it possible you could post a larger picture? I think you'd get more responses. Plus provide some details about what you want from the space. Do you need/want seating/eating space in the kitchen? Kids? How many cooks? From what I can see, you don't have anything on that run of cabinets on the bottom. I can't see that area serving any purpose. You certainly won't use it for working or preping. I'd be inclined to get rid of that run of cabinets entirely and use that space to make the island larger. Then I'd add a prep sink to the end of the island by the fridge. BTW, when you start a new thread, it remains at the top of the board until you start getting responses. When you responded to your own post, your thread started dropping down the board. Try posting larger pictures so people can see the details and provide more information all in one post. I think that would help a lot. :)

KathyNY76, We looked at the option of a longer island and would love to have been able to do that. The biggest issue the width of the kitchen. If you look at GreenDesigns drawing, the door that swings open would actually only leave a few inches of space between the door and island. The current island is only 30" from the base cabinets as it stands now, hence why we are considering eliminating it. The issue is the drawings I posted show a little more room width wise than what is actually there. My apologizes for this. For a better sense of what I am referring to, here are a few pics reposted. This is facing the wall where the peninsula is shown in the drawings. The wall is not load bearing. This is facing the same wall from the kitchen. There is currently 30" of space between bottom cabinets and island. This is facing in opposite direction. We usually use this door to come into the house. So given the above, any changes in opinion?

Is that island really 4'8" wide. Yikes! No wonder you have too-narrow aisles. Take at 8" off the width giving you a perfectly adequate 4' wide island. Then add 4" to each aisle giving you 48" aisles. Much better! I would then move the fridge down to the end of that counter run, eliminating that pantry cabinet on the end and putting the fridge there instead. And then I'd move the prep sink onto that stretch of counter between fridge and cooktop. This gives you good flow from fridge to prep to cook. I would only use the island for supplemental prep space if more room was needed to spread things out. I would also shorten the length of the island by at least 6". I'd probably take of an entire foot. I would rather have a spacious walkway to alleviate traffic congestion through there and to make your space feel bigger. Crowded aisles make even a bigger kitchen feel small.

Depends on what you want. Plan one has a serpentine aspect : living /kitchen /dining are removed from each other and the prob is that none of the three spots are large enough to accommodate what I would want . Perhaps that is what you desire in that people will be splintered off but I see continual back and forth and not in a good way. Plan two w probably a reduction of island somewhat offers the one lg space and I would plan for the couch and around fireplace to also contain a couple chairs once the island is adjusted for that. And you still have the front room as a separate area which will evolve as far as your use dictates. Can't comment on storage ......it can be worked out .....looking at more long term possibilities and comfort/enjoyment for day to day living. Good luck

@er612 Yes, I suspect the wall that is currently there is load bearing and that may require a support beam that I'd plan to hide in drywall to look like a soffit. I'm still very early in the process and need to get contractors out to see how doable (and expensive) it is to partially open that wall up and steal space from the coat closet.

Ikea kitchen planner is very clunky so I couldn't add the dimensions to the layout I already created, but here are the dimensions (in inches) in the version I started making in Sweet Home 3D (this version is missing the peninsula). As you can see, I'm trying to get the hang of just visualizing my space right now, so none of these renderings are professional--but I appreciate the Houzz community taking a look and seeing if the overall placement would make my current space more functional-thank you!

Try to do the drawing on graph paper not using the Ikeaplanner. Sorry but imgur is great from your perspective but forus to go back and forth dozens of times is not a good idea. Post the to scale plan and sow windows , doorways and where the doorways lead . On the drawing show where the closet is that you want to use . IMO moving plumbing and windows is expensive so with proper drawings you will get lots of free advice that might help to see the space differently .Do not show any cabinets or appliances in your drawing but do inclue appliance sizes if keeping what you have.
