composting daylily roots

old_dirt 6a
last year

I am digging up a LOT of daylilies and have replanted and given away as many as possible. The rest i have added to the compost pile. My problem right now is they just reroot and shoot up through the pile. I've added all the normal kitchen scraps, garden clean up and then a 6 inch layer of leaves.

I do only cold compost so I'm wondering how long will it be before they will quit growing and actually compost? Is there anything you would recommend to add to speed up the process? I wonder if i started a new pile and put them on the very bottom would be best.
