Summer is FINALLY here! How 's your garden growing?
Comments (68)It IS taking a long time to load, Bonnie. I was able to fold half a line of clothes waiting . . . Does starting a harvest thread make sense? I had lettuce in my lunch sandwich today but we are definitely down to the last of it. We'll see if the most recent transplants can overcome the dog days of Summer. Three beds of peas have been ripped out so far. I harvested the shallots from sets this week! A little early but it was either get them out of the ground or allow the weeds in the bed to run to seed! What is with the onion family? They offer ZERO resistance to weeds and trying to pull a weed beside an onion at almost any stage of growth means taking a 50/50 chance of ripping the onion out of the ground along with the weed! Fortunately, I've still got the shallots-from-seed left in the bed, uh well, 50% of them. I think they'll be able to grow to be sets that can survive a Winter. I'd be pleased to get another variety going. All onions are doing well where more attentive weeding prevailed. Altho' I am a little worried about my leeks. I blamed the American Flag variety for being so scrawny last year and went back to Lancelot . . . they seem rather scrawny, themselves. It looks as tho' sweet onions from seed will continue "bulbing-up" sufficiently not to embarrass me in o8. The sweets from plants are HUGE! The little leeks will get more fish emulsion tomorrow and maybe they can catch up. The 1st zucchini came off a vine nearly 10 days ago. Not much sign of anything else in the cucurbit patch with the exception of small Fastbreak cantaloupes forming! Oh, and it looks like I'll have a good sized pun'kin for Halloween. The earliest of the sweet corn has started to tassel. And hey, I've got the 1st Dusky eggplant for tomorrow's lunch!! Somehow, it seems like we should be later in the season . . . Maybe that's because we went from a cool Spring, to very pleasant warm weather, to some Summer HEAT, to today. Whereas it was 91° mid-afternoon yesterday, it was 63° with a smattering of rain showers at the same time today. Makes it seem like Autumn. digitS'...See MoreJUNE 2018 - How’s your house build?
Comments (247)We have (some) tile! The wrong tile was ordered for my girls’ bathroom and for the laundry room. Luckily, I saw it RIGHT before it was going to be installed. It was nothing close to what I wanted in looks, but the name was really close- hence the mistake. Now we are waiting for the correct tile to come in, so those rooms and my middle son’s bathroom haven’t been started yet. (mudroom) (Powder room) (Master bath floor) (Basement bath floor) And half of a completed exterior! Nidnay, you mentioned earlier up the thread about shutters being looked at unfavorably on Houzz (I think yours are beautiful, btw, and perfect for your gorgeous house!), but I think my white hardie board with black windows get more disdain than shutters- haha. On another note, anyone else Looking at furniture? We live in a big furniture manufacturing area, so we went to a factory to look at some pieces on Thursday. Now I am trying to decide on fabrics. I’m leaning towards the ones below: Leather for sofa, light color for other sofa (it’s bulletproof fabric, so kid and pet friendly, otherwise I would never look at such a light color with 4 kids and 4 pets!). Patterned fabric and lagoon fabric (pic below this one) would be for chairs. One for the head of table dining room chairs, and one for the 2 arm chairs to go with the sofas. Trying to decide which fabric for which chairs, and keep changing my mind! We have a great room, so these pieces will all be in eye shot of each other. Lagoon...See MoreHow’s traffic near you?
Comments (23)Yes, the combo of many more walkers, joggers, bikers and lead footed drivers is a bad one. Many roads around here are narrow and windy. When driving and avoiding walkers etc, it can be difficult to see what’s coming around the curve or over the hill. I can tell some of the bikers are not accustomed to riding in the road, partly because they are huffing and puffing and wobbling around! There are family clusters of stroller pushers along with new little bikers, usually accompanied by some sort of doodle dog. As Gscience says, nothing will be done to remedy the situation until something awful happens. our township has decided, rightly, that this is a good time to repair roads while at the same time our electric company is replacing aging infrastructure. Honestly, with all the road blocks there are times where you can’t get there from here, and the unblocked roads have become raceways....See MoreFor Lois and the Hosta growers
Comments (11)#2 is probably not Frances Williams. Frances Williams almost always has burned brown spots on the leaves, mostly on the edges, but also other places. #2 is really pretty, with no spots evident. So , I would say that unless the photo was taken within the first month it came up, it's not FW. Most photos in the hostalibrary.org show really nice specimens, but all the photos there of FW have brown spots. There was a new and improved version of FW that came out a few years ago that wasn't supposed have spots, named Olive Bailey Langdon. Maybe it didn't spots up north, but it had spots at my house. bk...See Morebkay2000
