Comments (1)Hve you used the door designer on the Thermatru website? I wouldn't go all the way down to Smooth Star - we built a modular and upgraded to the Fiber Classic (I don't think they offered the Classic Craft in 2007), it wasn't anywhere near that much $$$ even with sidelights. Check with local suppliers on their prices. I wanted our door prefinished, it wasn't. You may be able to get exactly what you want at a lower price from a local lumberyard, though sidelights and transoms complicate the matter. Maybe an option is to get the sidelights and transom you want in the "Classic Craft" (though I don't know if the construction of those is really that different from line to line) and get a "Fiber Classic" door that will be OK for a while (and still has grain), it would be really easy to upgrade just the door later. Much harder to upgrade sidelights and transoms. Here is a link that might be useful: Thermatru doors...See MoreBest glass shower doors
Comments (22)This is not an advertisement, I swear...... I reluctantly went to a "party" at my neighbor's a few weeks ago, more to see their house than anything...lol. It was for Norwex. I plunked down some money for the over-priced rags. Can you tell I was skeptical???? I am not a housekeeper. I am the only one in the house that lifts a finger to do this kind of work, however. So I do what I must, and that includes a huge, clear glassed in, frameless shower. So, I get the new rags, and I am wiping the mirrors, and the counter, and I decide to wipe the shower, which is covered in water spots that have not budged with the use of microfiber clothes, window cleaner, Magic Eraser, etc. yes, I have tried them all. Just wiping it down took almost all of the spots off. REALLY. It was just the cleaning cloth, and whatever water I had wiped up elsewhere, plus, any gunk....the cloth was not even clean, and it cleaned the shower glass! It also cleaned the black drip pans on my stove, which, after 3 years of hard use, had gotten stuck on stuff that even scouring powder could not get off, and I wipe them every night. They are now almost new looking....See MoreBest way to preserve pine sliding patio door.
Comments (4)I built a wooden screen door about 4 years ago out of Cypress. I stained and applied clear penetrating epoxy sealer by Smiths, followed by Man-O-War spar varnish. Now the door was somewhat protected by an overhang and does not receive much direct sunlight, so the finish has held up fairly well. If your door gets heavy sunlight exposure, you may have to apply the spar varnish up to 1-2 years, with complete stripping and starting over every 3 recoats. Note that the varnish must be for exterior. Polyurethane is for interior only. Clear wood finishes just don't last a long time with UV exposure. Some finishes are better than others due to UV inhitors. For top quality finishes, call Jamestown distributors and they can recommend something for your door. They tailor to boat industry. Big box spar varnish should give you decent performance at lower costs. Another option is to use a semi-transparent stain, but this will hide some of the woodgrain, although these last longer than clear finishes. For even less maintenance, a top quality 100% Acrylic paint from SW or BM is your option. Goof Luck....See MoreWhat glass door or shield works best for shower/tub combos?
Comments (9)I've had shower curtains all my life and I have never ever had one wrap around me. Maybe it's a quality issue. We had everything planned around having glass in both our walk in shower and our tub shower during our restoration and then I realized the only reason I was getting it was b/c everyone else was doing it, but I hated the idea of cleaning it and of having the permanent barriers there. My friends share tips for how to clean their glass, where to buy the best squeegee, how to convince husbands and kids to squeegee after they shower. I still don't get it. Seems like an expensive PIA. When we got rid of old sliding glass doors on the tub, I couldn't believe how much easier it made life - esp. with 2 small kids....See Moremillworkman
