Help with Open Floor plan and front door opening to open living room
Comments (3)That really leaves you with the current arrangement, replacing the grey chair by the front window with kid stuff and leaving the floating living space opposite the TV. I'd really look into rerouting cable so the TV can be where the large art piece is. It's not usually very expensive and will be necessary in order to keep your walkway from running right in front of the tv....See Morelayout dilemma living room
Comments (7)Couches are not "a focal point" in a room. Focal points are typically architectural things like windows, fireplaces, or can be a large piece of artwork or a unique lighting fixture. And those couches specifically should not be highlighted in any way. Couches also need to be pulled into the center of the space, they should not be pushed up against walls in an L configuration. And gray is not a "bold" color. So now that we have that cleared up ..... the first thing you need to do to determine furniture configuration in a family room is to decide where the TV is going, and then situate the furniture around that. And oddly enough there is usually only one place a TV can go in a room, so it's usually not much of a decision. From what I can see, it looks like the wall it is currently on is where is has to be. So then pull your couch into the center of the room to face it. You will need to get rid of the love seat, there is not enough room in that space for it. Then get two accent chairs to complete the seating arrangement. I wouldn't put anything on the "odd" angled wall next to the TV because it will just draw your eye to look at and it will just distract from the TV. Just leave that wall blank as is so that it just "blends" away. Then get a larger console to go under the TV, the one you have now is too small. Remove the mirror on the wall. Remove the drapery panels and replace with blinds....See MoreNeed help with an odd accent wall in open dining/living room
Comments (1)Valspar has identified coordinates for Pale Bloom. Choose one of the darker colors for the stair wall. Be aware that the wall and your kitchen cabinets are going to abut visually, so choose both colors carefully. I like the third box...the Navaho but darker color on the strip with the green for stair wall. https://m.valsparpaint.com/color-detail.php?id=2667 Example of green with brown...See MoreIs this open floorplan...odd?
Comments (47)Just some thoughts: Powder room. Perhaps you could create an "L" shaped powder room in the kitchen in that back left corner (closer to the supply and drain lines for your plumbing and out of sight from the living room and the toilet not visible from the kitchen. You could put the toilet where the dishwasher is now shown, add a tiny sink in the very back left corner and then have the door to enter the powder room left of where the refrigerator is now shown (in your first image of the plan). The door could open outward and appear to be a corner pantry at a first glance. Refrigerator and pantry/food storage: Put your refrigerator where the sink is now shown and have the refrigerator backed against the solid wall beside the new location of the toilet but with a (preferably deep, wide) vertical drawer between the refrigerator and powder room wall for use as pantry space. (Option, contingent upon size of refrigerator and space: you could put a second matching vertical drawer on the left of the refrigerator.) Then left of the refrigerator -- or left of a second vertical drawer left of the refrigerator -- begin against that wall (about where the powder room is located in your first image of the plan) and create a peninsula bar between kitchen and sitting area in lieu of the countertop and island bar in that first image of the plan. You could have overhead cabinets with glass doors on both sides over for part of that bar. Make the "dead" left corner of the base cabinet of the bar/peninsula accessible via a door without visible hardware from the living room side of the bar/peninsula. Stove. With a 16" counter top immediately right of the new powder room wall, then you could set your stove where and just to the right of where your refrigerator is shown. DW. Beside the new location of the stove add a dishwasher to the right of the stove with a countertop above that. Sink: Beside the dishwasher and beneath the window, begin the end of another peninsula at a right angle to the wall that extends toward the other peninsula just long enough to house the sink at a right angle to the dishwasher. The beginning of the peninsula will give you countertop space left of the sink and you need another 16" of countertop space right of the sink in the peninsula facing where the dining table is now shown....See Moreffpalms
