Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Bathroom layout options

Were planning a bathroom renovation in a bathroom that is currently 11’11 x 7’ 6. the spce currently includes a closet 6’6 and an acrylic inset tub/shower combo on one wall and a small vanity and toilet on the other. There is a closet 32” in an adjacent room that we can steal. Must haves are a free standing tub, double vanity and shower. We are hitting a wall in terms of options. Any ideas?

IMO free standing tubs are really cool to look at not so cool to get in and out of . The tub needs at least 12" all the way around the back and ends for cleaning Your floor plan is hard to really understand . Just post a to scale drawing of the whole space you are planning to use do not put anything in the space except for the places for plumbing especailly the toilet . Show a window if there is one and the entry to the space . Is this a master bath?

This doesn’t appear to be a master bath, so why would you want to have a freestanding tub?

Sorry if I'm late to the party here, but I liked your first option #2 for the reason that I like the closet area more separate from the bath and from a heating point of view, it's always better to have the rad on an outside wall. I like some of the changes you've made to the bath design in the latest options 1 & 2. I don't like the doorway in the hallway, and I don't like the bed on the window wall...I like to see light and what's happening outside when I wake up, not an interior wall. I also think its warmer to have the bed on an interior wall. I would suggest moving the bed back to the interior wall, and changing the door to a pocket door so you can center the bed on that wall opposite the center of the windows. This will give you a better look, better space to walk around the bed to the bath, and something to look at when you wake up.

Hello! I'm really tight for space with my vanity - the vanity is 32" wide (33" with counter) and will be centered in an area between a wall and the toilet - area is approx 39" wide at it's widest. How can I put a mirror above the vanity and allow for side lights? Some of the side lights that I have found are only 5" wide and I can do a mirror that is 22-24" wide... Will this work? Thanks everyone - I'm going crazy trying to figure this out...

The "regular" bath layout that jensbride posted first is very similar to what our DD & DS shared for years and worked very well. The door, however, was a pocket style and placed directly across from the toilet. This allowed the vanity to be scooted around the corner to take up the whole wall. It leaves the toilet close to the tub, but with lots of elbow room. Our kids just learned to keep the door partially closed when the bath wasn't in use due to the "view".

Thank you for the response! We decided we didn't like option 4 either. The master bath was too constricted, and we didn't like the vanity butting up against the shower. We've decided to go with 1a or 1b. We like the second closet and the entrance it creates, but I my husband pointed out that he'd have no surface area to layout clothes and other items if the dresser were gone. Also, the bedroom is on the small side, and the extra space may help it feel larger. I'm not completely ruling out 1a, but we're leaning toward 1b. Not to mention, there would be a cost savings since we won't have to frame in a second closet or add shelves, and we already own the dresser.

Thanks for the responses. This is not a master bath but a main family bathroom that would also be accessible by guests. The master bath is a whole other (very tiny!) story! I’d consider not doing a freestanding tub but do love the look and will be missing the one that is in our current home.

I’ve cropped the image to show a tighter view of the space and closet we’d consider taking space from. We are in planning stages before we take possession. Current fixtures are from ‘92 and we will be gutting it.

If it were mine, I’d just get a longer vanity. But you can replace the closets with the tub and put a new shower where the existing is.

Put 2nd vanity where I marked in red, with floor-ro-ceiling linen closet on wall opposite ;marked in blue)

The proposed area for floor-to-ceiling linen storage could also be utilized as a vanity area

Just re-read your post that a shower was a “must have”. Put the shower where I put the 2nd sink (red), and the 2nd sink where I put the linen closet or vanity (blue)
