Towel bar placement

I'm adding an 18 inch towel bar below the window in my newly refreshed bathroom.

Should I put it even with the vanity top (36.5 inches from floor)? (There is room for the vanity door to open without hitting the towel bar, even if the towel bar is at 36.5 inches.)

Or, would it be better to split the difference between the window sill and vanity top and center the towel bar there? (That would be about 38.5 inches from floor.)

Trying to decide which way will look best with vanity height, window sill, and long artwork to the right.

Is the towel bar for the two sinks to have hand towel access? Or is there another wall on left sink for a hand towel?

This towel bar is for the right sink only. The other sink will have a towel ring, as there isn't space for a towel bar. The only other bar in the room is one that hangs over the bathroom door. And we have a hook as well.

I realize this is an old post, but from personal experience (and I am not speaking necessarily about children) hooks are very plausible as a) they prevent over stacking b) gives the towels a chance to dry c) actually can look tidier as there is no need to fold/drape d) also purposeful for hanging a bathrobe or your clothes while bathing or even a small bathmat if floor space is tight. That said; for easy hanging of large bath sheets due to their length; I have sewn on a colour co-ordinated loop (double fold cotton bias tape found in the sewing notions) about mid way down on one side. Re style; just ensure you choose a hook that has a reasonable projection and has some sort of a stopper at its end and experiment with its spacing if using more than one. Oh, should add for those with the same question and have limited space for mounting; you might wish to look at a swivel type of hook as well that have more than one arm/hook.

Tile border / towel bar placement

If your towel ring/bar is above your accent tile, then your towel will hang down and cover your tile. (Ask me how I know this.) You'd actually see more accent tile if you mount your towel bar/ring on the accent stripe. Plus, if you crack a tile, it's a 1x1, so easy to replace. I'd decide on a best place for the accent tile, so it won't be obstructed by countertop clutter or cut in half by a window. Then decide on the best place for a towel bar. Then adjust each a few inches if needed. But no, there's no rule.

in all the layouts i have for my master bath there is very little place to hang a towel bar, is it possible to hang on a wall that houses a pocket door if you used inserts or will they be deep enough to interfere?

I just painted this powder room and my son just snapped the towel bar so I don't know if I should use a bar style again or go with a ring? Also, I need an outside opinion regarding colour, stainless steel like the faucet or black like the light? Currently the toilet paper holder is white like the broken towel holder currently on the wall...I guess I need to match that to the towel holder? I worry about my patch job when removing these things, any tips?

Take some painter’s tape 18” and place in line with bottom of art to see if you like. Also while standing in front of sink turn and reach right, as if reaching for the towel. That may help guide placement.

Thanks, guys. It might be too low to put a hand towel here . . . I'll try it out. I could just skip the towel bar and place a hand towel on the vanity top.

Sorry, didn’t see your last post … we do that in our bathroom. Have one towel on a ring by the left sink and I keep a folded one by the right hand sink. But most times, we both use the left sink and towel. :)

Here's the left wall. We're planning to put a towel ring to the left of the left sink.

If you are just doing a small bar for a hand towel, put it just below the window trim. Personally, I would have centered that picture on the height of the window trim instead of dipping below it.

Hmm. What do you think about two hooks on the left wall? Otherwise, I’d share one towel or keep one folded, like you said.

Or a double hook:

We have our bath towels on hooks very close together, it’s never been an issue.

Pretty bathroom!

ETA: I can’t tell measurements from the pictures — would one regular towel bar fit there, that could hold two towels?

Debbie, thanks for the input. I considered centering the picture with the window frame, but then it would be several inches over gallery height, and seemed to high. I might play around with it some more.

I'm not sure I would worry about gallery height next to a toilet. It is strange to have another level there - the top , the window trim , then the picture. I would at least line it up with the bottom of the window trim so it has some relation to whats alongside of it.
